stuttering question

Marion has been speaking in sentences for a month or two now, but she's recently (past three weeks or so) started stuttering a lot when she's trying to express herself.

For instance, she'll tell us "flowers stay, stay, stay, stay, stay, stay, stay, stay on bushes."  (She has a thing for wanting to pick all the flowers she sees.)  Even two word sentences she'll stumble over them "mama, mama, mama, mama, mama, mama sit."

Is this normal, just a sign of her brain working faster than her mouth, just a normal toddler thing, or something more to be worried about?

    Natalie went through that a bit and now she speaks in well-flowing sentences. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about.

    my dd started stuttering shortly before her 1st bday and pedi said it was  normal for kids her age to do this, just like the previous post said. 

    however, stuttering runs in my family, both my dad and i still stutter to this day (not all of the time though).  our pedi said that if she's still exhibiting a stuttering issue at her 3rd birthday on a regular basis, we'll address it then.  i was kind of surprised by this because with my stuttering i didn't get help until i was in grade school.  he said they start much earlier with this now. 

    anyway, dd still has a stuttering issue, not too much of a surprise or a concern for me though.  i know it will get better as she gets older, mine has.  so, in a few months at her 3rd bday appointment, we'll let him know she still stutters.

    It's very normal.  She knows what she wants to say, but her brain is just trying to figure out how to say it.  Sam still does this, and we asked his doctor about it, and she said it's still very normal, and may keep happening to an extent until about 7 years old.

    Yes!  My sister went through this.  My mom took her to see a specialist and this is what they told her.  My mom was worried, because she had a head injury a week or so before the stuttering started.

    We went through this with Blake.  He would be fine, then stutter for a month or so, stop for a month, and then start up again.  At one point he even did the "blocking" thing, where his entire mouth tensed up and he brought his hand to his face.  It all started shortly after his second birthday.

    I talked about it with his ped and she said that it was normal for now.  Within the past 4 months he pretty much hasn't had any further periods of stuttering, so I think in most cases it is just a developmental thing.

    Definitely normal! It's simply their minds working faster than they can get their words out!

    I'm an SLP and that is totally normal to have whole word repetitions. That is just part of normal dysfluency. Some dysfluencies, even at a young age, can be a sign of real issues (such as mmmmmmmomma, or fu-fu-fu-flower) but a whole word repetition does not fall into that grouping.
