Allergy question

Tyler has a constant runny nose(just one side) for the last few months. He is teething and has a low grade fever at times.

I brought this up to the dr. at his last appt. and she brought up the fact that he could have allergies.

I get seasonal allergies and had terrible allergies when I was in elem. school so it would not surprise me if he does have  them.

She suggested using allergy meds for him to control it but I am not sure if he is too young to start him on these.

We are going to talk about it again at his next check-up in a few months.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Allergy question

  • I agree that it's most likely allergies.  At around 1, we did 1ml of children zyrtec at bed time.  If her allergies were getting bad or becoming a cold, we would ADD on a dose of benadryl in the morning time.  Benadryl has the quick relief, zyrtec takes a whlie before you see results (i.e. a few days to a week).

  • We do Zyrtec as needed for seasonal allergies. I think we started around 18 months with 2.5 ml per our pedi. The pedi has assured me numerous times there is no harm in DS taking it as directed, including for weeks on end, when needed.
  • We started Zyrtec around 9 months with Kaley for her allergies.
