Looks like DH settled on Walter Reed

Don't know if we'll be at Belvoir or Bethesda though. He's contacting his Brigade Nursing Counselor to ask.

I forgot about the snow....Oh how I hate snow. But he thinks that's where he'll bet the most from his training and loves it since he got to know the staff last month.

Now, as far as moving across several states, where do I start? I don't know if we'll move before OBC (May/June) or after (Oct/Nov).

Re: Looks like DH settled on Walter Reed

  • We recently PCS'd to Quantico from NC.  I was horrified to see the weather they had last winter.  I hear it was not a typical winter, and I'm praying they are right.  I HATE snow and cold weather in general.  DH and DS are very much looking forward to it, but I certainly am not.

Good luck with you move, whenever it happens.

  • We've lived here for almost 4 years and I can tell you last winter was not normal. Also, people don't have the slightest clue how to deal with it so if it snows at all, don't go out. :)

There are a million things to do around here. I think you'll like it.

That's how it is here too. One snow flake and people become maniacs. Same with rain too. Even a light sprinkle will lead to 4-5 wrecks.

  • Glad you at least know where you are going. The traffic is awful, but you learn to deal with it and avoid it. I think it really depends on your attitude if you will like it here or not. There is so much to do and see. If you take advantage of the city, it is great. The weather can be rough at times (especially this year which has not been normal), but fall and spring are beautiful.

     Hopefully you enjoy it!

This is how it is in NC too.  I'm from the midwest, so we learned to drive in the snow when we were 16.  In NC, it was the funniest thing to watch.  Even if it was just a dusting, you would always see tire tracks leading to the grass because people just couldn't figure out how not to slide with a minute amount of snow.  When we got a couple inches, they literally closed down the entire town.  Amateurs, lol.

  • We are back in the DC area (I lived in NoVA for 8 years before becoming a nomadic wife. I love aspects of living here, but there are some that I greatly dislike, traffic, for instance! Unless you plan on moving when your DH moves to his new location (Belvior or Bethesda), I would look at the various commute times & options when deciding where to live. We had considered living at Belvoir (there is typically a long wait, but if you have deployment credit or if it is the service member's first duty station, the weight is not as long). But, DH's commute would have been at least 75 minutes each way. We found a townhouse close to the Metro and his commute is fabulous!

If yup have any questions, feel free to ask. I lived in Falls Church for four years and Alexandria for four years, so I am relatively familiar with NoVA. Though, NW DC and partnof Maryland are much more more convenient to WRAMC. When the time gets closer, you can always ask for suggestions and insight on the local Bump & Nest boards.
