Dropping pumping session while BF'ing on demand?

I would like to have DS either weaned at 9 mo or only doing first am, last evening sessions.  The past week at work I cut pumping down from 3 times a day to 2 but this weekend I have still been BF'ing on demand.  Sitting here and thinking about it, I'm wondering how that will work?  Should I be supplementing with bottles a few times a day on the weekends so my supply doesn't go back up?

DS has always been a snacker and his eating times have been completely random so its not like I can cut out the exact feeding to match the pumping session...

Also, as I start giving full bottles of formula, should there be more ounces in those bottles?  I haven't changed the amt in BM bottles since he has been about 4 months as he hasn't seemed to need more and I read that your milk changes to suit their needs as they get bigger.  But I see posts where formula fed babies can take up to 8 oz.  So should those bottles be bigger?

DS takes 5.5oz bottles, is 21 lbs and 30 in.  Thanks for the help!

  • if you are dropping pumping sessions, your supply will drop, so yes, you will need to begin feeding him bottles so he gets enough and so you can wean successfully.
