Anyone ever lose weight in the beginning?

It's not that I'm complaining but from the first doctors visit to the one I had last week I've lost 8 lbs and when I got on the scale again this morning it is down even more.  I don't have an appetite and I'm only able to eat half my meal if I'm lucky.  The doctor said she has seen a lot of that and wonders if the heat may be to blame.  I just wonder when too much is too much.

Re: Anyone ever lose weight in the beginning?

  • Yep, I lost a lot in the beginning from food aversions and nausea, after the initial bloat.  I don't think I started packing on the pounds until after week 24 and then it was all uphill from there.  I am not sure when too much is too much...staying well hydrated and taking the prenatals are important as you know and eating small meals maybe more frequently might help...I know I lived for crackers for awhile.  I remember when I got my appetite back...it was right at Thanksgiving...everything smelled so good and it was so nice to look forward to eating again, instead of dreading it.

  • I lost weight also, about 8 lbs.  But I wasn't eating well at all.  Just didn't feel up to it.  All the books I read said losing weight in the 1st trimester is very common due to m/s.

  • I think all in all, I lost 12 lbs in the first trimester with DS.  The docs weren't really concerned because I was able to keep my prenatal vitamin down.  And they thought it was hilarious that I was excited the first time I gained weight - said they're not used to seeing pregnant women happy about weight gain :)
In the end, I think I gained 30 lbs (but if you count it from my lowest point, then it was actually 42!)

  • I was super sick and barely ate at all during my first trimester. I was down about 8 lbs until my 20 week appointment when I had gained that back plus 2 lbs. My OB wasn't concerned because it was one of the super hot days and in the afternoon but I've noticed a steady increase of about a pound a week since then and I haven't changed my diet.

  • I've lost 12 pounds all in all...and I'm sure I'm not done yet...I see my Doctor again in 3 weeks and she wasn't concerned at my weight loss...she was actually happy (on the heavier side pre-pregnancy)
  • I lost 5-10 pounds in the first trimester because I was so sick.

  • I was below "healthy" weight to begin with going by the height weight charts for my height, so the midwives were concerned right away. I should not have been losing, and lost about 8 pounds from pre-pregnancy, so they monitored me and I did have to go on zofran, because I couldn't even keep water down. It didn't increase my appetite, just keep the food I did eat down. I am almost 20 weeks, and at my last appointment I did gain all my weight back, plus 1 pound, so I was 1 pound above pre-pregnancy weight. They are still concerned about the weight, but the baby is fine and kicking and measuring ahead for now, so they are watching it, but since I have gained weight back, they are not as worried anymore.
