...out of the crib.
DS hates his crib. Probably because he spends most of the night in our bed (we have bedshared from day 1).
So... We are thinking of doing a twin mattress on the floor of his room. He's climbing everywhere and it's only a matter of time before he climbs out of his crib anyway. We're definitely skipping the toddler bed.
What do you think... Do it now? Wait a bit longer?
We worry he'll just want to get up and play. And it might be harder for our nanny to get him down for naps...
HMMMMM
Re: Thinking of making the transition...
Depending on his relationship with the nanny, she may have an easier time of it. When I babysat, one of the kids had a toddler bed one day. Thinking he was moving out, I made a big deal of his "Big Boy Bed". He was so eager to please, I got him to sleep there. When his mother came home, she was so surprised because she hadn't gotten him to sleep there yet! Sometimes kids are more eager to please with non-family.
I'd say do it now, especially if he's going to be climbing. You don't want to wait until you have to do it.
But my LO is such a bad sleeper that it is probably worth a try. Can't get much worse

Yeah - I've never understood the purpose of toddler beds. But you make a good point, actually. We already have a full size mattress in the guest room... That would make for an easy experiment.
Do you know how old your niece/nephew was when they went to mattress on the floor?

After my surprise BFP with DD, we switched DS1 to a toddler bed at 11 months so that we could use the crib for her. He'd like having his own bed, and a twin bed (which is what we wanted to buy) was so much bigger and scary for him. fWe were lucky and he loved it - we made a big deal of letting him pick out his own sheets and telling him what a big boy he was. He slept in it right from the very first night. He just turned 3 in May and we're picking up his full sized bed this weekend - they grow way to fast!
various ages... but the earliest was around two... but their bedrooms are all second floor which was a factor...
I say go for it. There's always something to worry about, crawling out of the crib or moving to the bed and possibly getting up more often. I'm sure he'll get use to it. We'll be moving Cora to a bed probably around 19 months. We're not getting a toddler bed either and plan on moving the full sized bed on the floor to start with. Good luck!
