Estrace Pill (a little TMI)

Today was my first day of taking an Estrace pill vaginally. I also started with progesterone, my nurse told me to put the pill on top of the progestrone applicator and then insert it. Well, that didn't work and the pill fell off the applicator but I didn't realize it until the progestrone was already in. So then I had to insert the pill by hand, but I don't think I put it in far enough. I just went to the bathroom (2 hours later) and when I wiped the blue pill was all over the toilet paper.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I use another pill or is this worth an emergency phone call to my RE?

Sorry to be a little graphic but I'm worried. You guys always know best :0)

 Thanks!

  • I've not had that happen. I have estrace & suppositories too, but I don't have an applicator with mine. I insert them separately. It wouldn't hurt to give them a call to see what they think, but I don't think it's that big of a deal.

  • I'm sorry to say...but this is expected.  When on Estrace...you will have blueish-greenish discharge pretty much daily.  I swear...I should have bought stock in Always for the amount of panty liners I go through.

As far as it "falling off the applicator" that will happen as well.  Sometimes you have to just shove it up there.

     Good luck.

  • Here's how I do it...I'll warn you, it's really wasteful, but it works.

I take a tampon (the Tampax Pearl kind) and I put the Estrace in the tip of the tampon applicator.  I then insert the tampon like I normally would, but I only push the tampon in a little bit - just enough to push out the pill.  Then I pull out the tampon and applicator.  The Estrace pill stays way up there.  Like I said, it's wasteful because you use a tampon every time, but it works.

    Good Luck!

  • My nurse just told me to go ahead and just shove it up there as far as I can- so thats what I do- no applicator, no special tools, just my finger (sorry, TMI) whatever works is good for me :) I do it right before bed, so by the time I wake up, I don't worry about it coming out or anything- I do get the blueish discharge, but its very light and a panty liner works great!

This is exactly what I had to do too.  I remember when they told me that I had to take it vaginally I was like "huh?"

  • Thanks for being so honest ladies! I swear every step is something new and unexpected. All the advice is really helpful, and using a tampon each time, made me laugh. I swear, IF changes your perspective on body image and being comfortable with just about any thing.

Thanks Again Ladies...I'm so thankful I don't have to go through this alone, although I'm sad that you guys have to go through it too!
