Cuuuuuute! How do you get him to make the fake smile? It's adorable!
not sure. he used to clam up when I got out the camera (or cell phone) but he's quite the ham now. over the weekend when I would try to get him to laugh or smile by making faces or tickling him he would kind of make this goofy flat smile like "I know your tricks and I can't be bothered to laugh" occasionally I would win and he would bust out a belly laugh.
haha. I think miss A gives me that fake smile sometimes too...I just never thought of it as that before he's adorable...I love how he seems to be enjoying those yam sticks!! so do you roast/cook them until they are just barely cooked and then give them to him? does he actually eat it or just mouth it? i just bought a sweet potato for miss A and i'm trying to figure out how to prepare it for her so she'll actually bite/chew/swallow and not just mash it in her hands or choke on it
i'll share this pic of miss A, too she isn't looking at the camera but i thought it was cute b/c she looks like a little ballerina with her foot curled like that
jaime, that is such a cute picture - love the petticoat.
as for the food question - yes I roasted until they were soft but still firm enough to keep their shape. He could grasp them without squishing them (unlike banana and avocado - those just eventually make him mad). He could bite off hunks - but would work them around in his mouth and was able to spit them out, any softer and it may have gotten stuck? Same with fruits - raspberries squish too easily (although he liked them so much he started licking the table) but a 1/2 peach kept him occupied quite a while.
I though he was learning that small nibbles are more enjoyable but then I gave him some whole sprouted grain toast strips with avocado mash/spread and kept trying to stuff the whole strip in his mouth.
He really likes asparagus and cucumber strips (I take off the skin and cut in quarters and then cut off the middle soft/seed part). I roasted the asparagus using the same soft but firm guidelines and it didn't seem like he was able to consume much - maybe the tips so I might cook a bit longer next time.
and just because this also turned into a food post -
jack had sushi last night and loved it - the look on his face when the sticky rice wouldn't come off his fingers was priceless. I was stressed about white rice (rather than whole grains) but decided to let it go because it's better than lots of things and I want him to develop an interest in all types of food and it's what we were eating.
He had 2 different rolls - cucumber and avocado. The chef noticed jack was struggling with the nori paper so he made him some where the paper is on the inside and some without any paper (kind of just small rice balls with a hunk of avocado inside). It was messy but he enjoyed it.
