Is it required that rear-facing convertibles be reclined? Or is that just for newborn/infants?
I can't find this information anywhere, and all the installation instructions say to put it at 45 degree (reclined) position. The chick at BRU told me that they can be used upright and rear facing. She also told me that the Britax roundabout and marathon are the same size, which they are not. So not sure to trust her on this one.
Help?
Re: question about convertible carseats
I would follow the installation directions. I know that our carseat has a couple of incline position options, and we needed a pool noodle to keep it level in the car.
We have the Recaro Signo G2, so I am not familiar with the Britax sizes. I do know it is more narrow then the Britax, just comparing it to my friends boulevard. And it sits up higher. I love that it is super soft and comfy and that the crotch strap seems longer then the Britax. But, Ella is petite and I have read that for some kids they are more cramped in it because it is more narrow.
Thanks guys.
After more digging, it appears that britax allows you to adjust the level of recline for rear-facing, and it is even recommended to make bigger babies and toddlers more upright.
The people at BRU dont know anything... especially when it comes to carsets! Last week they told my friend that her 22 month old no longer needed to be in a carseat and should be moved to a booster...
I'm pretty positive that when rear facing the convertable car seats need to be in their reclined position, however it is not as reclined as the infant seat was. I drive a Mazda3 and I couldnt fit the infant seat rear facing behind the passanger seat, but my Evenflo triumph advance fits perfectly! (highly recommend that carseat btw!)
I think the safety manuals are available online, but FWIW ours has to be reclined when rear facing. When you install it, you can see why. It just doesn't fit right unless it's reclined..
We have the Evenflo Triumph. It's got the highest safety marks per the latest Consumer Reports guide, and the woman who installed our carseats said that it fits well smaller cars.
Call 1-800-BUCKL-UP or see https://www.800bucklup.org/; they are the experts on everything carseat related. This is all they do...I haven't called yet, but you can ask them the best carseat for your make/model of car.
I heard a rumor that Britax is coming out with a new line of smaller, safer carseats that fit better in copact cars.
This! The ladies here are awesome; the office is actually in Kirkland. When K first got fitted for her harness, I called and consulted over the phone, and they had me come in to the office and they helped me best fit her carseat for the harness. They know all the carseats, cars and there is a lady there that actually has most carseat manuals memorized. It was a little freaky actually, but very helpful!
This is what I was gonna say.
