We don't have a video monitor, we have a graco ivibe monitor. We love it, we haven't had any problems with static or interference. I like that it vibrates, it pretty loud, so I know it will always wake me. It think it was about $50

We have both a video and a movement monitor. I love them both for different reasons. The video monitor is great when they are older and more mobile. I can see her and watch her. When DD1 learned how to pull herself up I could make sure she was OK.
I like the movement monitor for peace of mind. Right now we use it with DD1's toddler bed because it beeps when she gets out, so she jumps right back in. LO is still in our room in the bassinet.

Like PP, we have both, so I'm probably no help. We use both all the time as well. I like the peace of mind of the movement monitor; I also like to see what's going on when he makes noise up there without going in and disturbing him.

This exactly! Minus I don't have an older child. Right now I just have the Angle Care Monitor. LOVE IT. It is a total must, money well spent. When he get's a bit older we are going to buy a video monitor so we can watch what he's doing!
Grape- Hilarious! you have your own built in security gaurd for DD1,
We don't have one; I just check on DDs frequently. My SIL has a video one and completely obsesses over it. She stares at it constantly and jumps everytime her LO makes a noise (her DD is a year old!). Makes me really glad we opted out of one...
Video monitor is an absolute must, in my opinion. And this is coming from a person who absolutely did not think they were worth the money when I was pregnant & shopping. Yep - then my baby arrived! A video monitor is sooooo much better than a sound one because you can see WHY they are upset. There are some cases where you'd want to let the baby fuss it out. In other words, they don't need you, they are just being cranky or having a tantrum, and that is something you would really want to know before going into their room and intervening.
we don't have a video one, but we have skype on two laptops so if we leave her in a room and I'm paranoid then I will set one up to watch her, and carry the other one around with me. The other one we have, I think it is safety first is very staticky, and I can hear her better with just leaving the door cracked.
Honestly, if you have a small house it isn't worth getting one, if you have you LO in your bedroom with you, you will be able to hear them breathing anyways.
I really like our anglecare deluxe movement monitor. It gives me extra peace of mind. It's gone off about 5 times; 2 times he was in the corner of the crib somehow so i think that's why, the others were either false alarms or not - who knows, but it makes me feel better to have it go off. It's a scary moment though. The only downside is that if you have a strong source of external vibration in the room (like a tiny tiny room with a ceiling fan), then even when you adjust the sensitivity it sometimes won't work properly. That happens at my parent's house. However at our house it works perfectly. I am so glad we have it! And I like that it tells us the temp in his room, as I like to keep it between 68 and 72.
We love our video monitor. I'm watching Ian TV right now! He's sleeping soundly. I love being able to check on him no matter where I am in the house...and if he's making noise, I can see what the situation is before I head up there (or know that he's just moving around a little and I don't need to go in there).
