There is hope, I promise!
My son was always a lousy sleeper. We were lucky to be getting 5-6 hour stretches and he regularly woke up 1-2x a night for the longest time. We got a lot of pressure from people to do CIO but we adamantly refused because we don't believe in that. We believe that babies will get to that point on their own schedule and we just have to be patient.
Well, for the past week and a half, my son has STTN for 11-12 hours every night! No sleep training, no interference at all on our part. I am so glad we resisted the pressure from other people because we would have let him cry unnecessarily.
So if you're still waiting, it'll come when they're ready! There is light at the end of the tunnel! Don't give in to pressure if it's not a decision you're comfortable with.
Re: If your baby doesn't STTN...
This happened with us too. At around 10.5 months, he just started sleeping better on his own. I'm sooo glad I never resorted to cio.
Although, now that he's teething again, he's sleeping not so great but I know he is capable of doing it on his own, and as you said, just have to be patient.
I am still waiting for the STTN but S did outgrow the crappy naps about three weeks ago! She started napping for more than 30 mins and now does at least an hour and 15.
I am crossing my fingers the nights will follow.
Thanks for posting!
Here's hoping! DS is getting closer. He wakes up and goes back down pretty easy. Though some nights I put him in bed with us because sometimes he just won't stay down. I think a lot of the problem is we're still working on our move from Okinawa so we're still in a hotel. So DS is still in his PnP and he might just have had it. Once he hits the mattress of the bed he is out, even if DH and I aren't in it.
Thanks for the encouragement. We too have been told to just let him cry and I'm not down with it. Well, I try because sometimes he is just sleep whinning. But if he doesn't settle down in a minute or so I'm there!
Thanks for the encouragement! I needed that lately.
DD was doing great until she started teething.

It's generally pretty easy to tell if they're crying in their sleep. My baby will sometimes do this, but really does wake up to eat 1-2 times per night
