Successful Cytotec Induction...Lorelei

My OB gave me the decision of starting a Cytotec induction on August 4th at 4:30pm because I had been having contractions with no progress for three weeks and he thought she may be pretty big...close to 8 lbs.  I decided to do it as if I waited my chances of a section would go up anyway.  So, the day before I was about 50 % effaced but not dilated.  However, on the day of my induction I was a fingertip dilated.  This made my OB extremely optimistic.  He placed the Cytotec which was supposed to just get my cervix ready for the pitocin the next morning.  However, I started to have regular contractions 2-3 minutes apart.  They said Lorelei was picture perfect.  I had dilated to a 4 by 3am which they said was SUPER fast.  I then decided to get the epidural.  As soon as I got the epi my blood pressure dropped and I started to throw up and shake profusely.  It was dropped down to 82/40.  They put me on meds and oxygen.  I still felt horrible so the nurse decided to have the anesthesiologist adjust the dose.  However, he turned it completely off without asking.  This caused me to have a huge hot spot when turned back on...on my right side in my pelvis...GREAT!  Lorelei's heart rate was high and decelerated during contractions for awhile, but then we got her under control.  I was running a temperature, also.  Plus her head was a bit swollen, so they said these were all indications that her head would not fit.  They decided to try and track my progress.  By 1:00pm I was asking to push, so the nurse came in and said it was showtime.  I started to push at 1:10 and by 1:25 they were calling my OB.  They kept telling me to wait to push.  I kept telling them I couldn't.  Well...once he got there I was like THANK YOU GOD!!!  We had Lorelei at 1:35pm on August 5th.  She was 8 lbs 11 ozs and 21 inches long.  They were all shocked at how big of a baby she was.  Her head circumference was 14.5 cms.  I had to have an episiotomy...it was so bad that the entire L&D staff heard how bad.  He stitched forever and my epi was completely wore off.  Meanwhile, we didn't get a pic of Daddy cutting the cord because it happened so fast and she wasn't crying.  She had meconium.  They kept her on oxygen until 11:30pm, and I cried.  Before that, I was in SO MUCH PAIN after delivery that I really couldn't spend time with her.  I held her for 30 seconds before they took her away.  We did not get to try to feed until she was off.  So needless to say...she is having a hard time latching.  We are definitely working at it.  She has such a great demeanor.  She never cries and is sweet as can be.  We just love her so much.

Re: Successful Cytotec Induction...Lorelei

  • You have such a beautiful baby and I'm so happy you were able to avoid a c-section....but your story has reinforced to me that I do NOT want Cytotec or an epidural, but I do want mother-directed pushing...none of this wait for the doctor crap! :)
