We have a nice dresser in the room we'll be using as a nursery. I'd really like to put a changing pad on top and not buy a seperate changing table. Has anyone done this? Any issues?
Just lurking...this is what we do, and I love it. Our nursery is very small and it fits well to have only the one piece of furniture that LO can use for many years.
It should be fine. That's what we're doing. We're buying a new dresser that matches our crib, but just because we don't have one we can use already.
Some tips from the salesperson at Buy Buy Baby-
First, attach the pad to the back of the dresser. The pad should have straps with snaps that will snap onto the back- you have to drill a hole to attach the back part of the snap.
Second, get one of those mats for that goes under rugs to keep them from slipping. The ones made for runners are the perfect width, and then you just have to trim it to the right length. It helps keep the pad from moving around.
Lots of people do it with no problem. We have a changing table, but that's cuz it was handed down to us with the crib. (They were my niece's.) Otherwise we would have done the same thing.
That's what we did with DS. I wanted to be able to use all of his furniture as he grew, so I didn't feel like getting an actual changing table was practical.

haven't done it, but we are planning to from the suggestion of my mom because she did it with all three of us kiddos and no problems.. she said it was really convenient cause everything you needed to change diapers and clothes was right there
Re: Using dresser as changing table?
We just ordered our baby furniture from BRU and that's exactly what it is.

This is what we do...works great! We will do the same for the next baby.
We did this with DS and we are doing it with DD. To help stop the sliding we bought some of the rubber drawer liners.
Looks like this, it comes in different colors. I got brown at Target, it was in the section with the Iron boards I think. It works great, no sliding.
We did it for dd and will do it for baby number 2.
Here is the area we made for her.
