I am so confused. I want to get some membership passes but am not sure what to get. I want the zoo pass for the fall. DH took Colin this week and he cannot stop talking about the animals he saw. He gets up each morning and says Giraffe? Zoo? So I think we will do this when the weather cools off. I also wanted to go to imagine it and the aquarium. He'd love to see the dinosaurs at Fernbank. I looked at citypass.com/atlanta but that seems like more of a one time 'park hopper' type option. So what passes do you have? I am wanting to have something to do on off school days this fall and am not sure what to get.
Re: Attraction Membership help
I used to work at the Aquarium and noticed that the children are always amazed no matter how often they visit. While the annual passes are expensive, it is a perfect place to visit when the weather gets too cold for the zoo. Just be sure to avoid peak times like holidays and weekend afermoons or you will feel like herded cattle because it can get that crowded.
DH and I also love the Fernbank. We act like a couple of big kids everytime we go there, especially in the interactive science area. While we've only been there a few times, we usually spend about 5-6 hours acting like kids in a candy store. We both love science and history so it is an easy thrill for us.
I really hope that helped. I'm sure no matter which passes you choose Colin will see something amazing.
Zoo is definitely the best bang for your buck. We have a family membership, but I have noticed that we use it really sporadically due to weather and crowds. I love the free parking. DD goes through phases of wanting to see the animals vs. do the train, playground, carousel, which is a little frustrating for me because we can go to playgrounds much closer to home - she still has fun though! If you go even twice as a family your membership essentially pays for itself (and it is a tax deduction).
DD's current favorite place is Imagine It! I like it too, because it's easy to let her run around a bit without freaking out (like I would at the Aquarium). The only thing I don't like about this place is that it is sometimes overrun with school groups/daycare kids who don't necessarily have enough adult supervision. Weekends (in the morning when they open) are actually less crowded than weekdays. Parking is $5.00 at nearby lots, and I consider that pretty reasonable.
If you think you want an Aquarium membership, get a copy of this year's Entertainment coupon book (I know that a few weeks ago I saw them advertised for like $7.99). There is a 30% off membership coupon in there, valid for up to 2 memberships.
Fernbank is nice, but we haven't really gotten much use out of our membership. They are doing a huge renovation on the children's area, so you may want to wait on that until the renovation is done. It is nice and air-conditioned, though!
In the past we had Aquarium and Zoo. I really liked both, but after a few years at the Aquarium I was done. You also have to pay for parking at the Aquarium, Zoo parking is free.
We currently have Fernbank, which both boys love, and Imaginations at Play. Its similar to Imagine it! and is in Buford (closer) and has free parking.

Guz, talk to me about the aquarium membership coupon. Where did you find that? I will definitely buy that for $45.00.
