Hawaii Babies

*** Lori, Libby's mama ***

Thanks for the link for the floor mats! How well do they seem to be wearing? And are they easy to wash? They'd be a ton cheaper than a rug, that's for sure!

Ugh, your MIL visiting for the weekend (and having only you to entertain her on Sunday) really sucks...don't spike her drink with Drano or anything, OK? Wink

It's funny the POV that some older ladies have about solids. Someone (MIL's age, but not MIL) said to me the other day that our boys should be eating solids now so make sure they're getting enough nutrition. Seriously? At 3 months? And has she SEEN my sons? They're butterballs! Trust me, those boys are getting enough food lol!

  • Ha ha!  I know...I mean, don't they get that things have changed in the 30-40-50 years since they were parenting babies?  It comes down to the whole, "it was good enough for my kids, so why isn't it good now?" Well, um...research, evolution, technology...where do I start?  They used to do all sorts of bizzare things for babies back in the day that wouldn't fly these days...

Hello?  Remember she tried to give my 4 month old baby merengue off a pie?  WTF!

I have already prepared myself to say, "I know you're expressing your concerns for Libby, but really, you don't need to worry.  We are 100% sure of the parenting decisions we're making....you don't have to agree with them, but I'd like you to try and at least respect them."  Worst case scenario I'll act like Libby is fussing and needs my attention in her room and disappear for a while if I need a break from MIL.  I am sure she'll just camp out in the living room and watch TV all day since that's what she does at home anyway.

And you're welcome about the tip on the mats.  I totally should have just gotten those from the start.  They're oh so practical, come in fun colors, are AFFORDABLE and are so easy to care for...I sweep them daily and mop them up with water and a little eco-friendly cleaner when Libby spits up or drools on them.  Easy peasy. We are a shoe-free household, but one day I ended up wearing my high heels on the mats and they indented but didn't puncture or anything and after a few minutes the intentations were gone completely.

Will they ship to Australia?  If not, it's worth having your mom or someone ship them to you. The shipping to me was included in the price of purchase...so for $48 we got 6 white and 6 pink tiles, enough to cover a 6x8 space.  The box was an exact fit to the tiles so it was like 24" square by 4-5 inches deep. They have a multi pack (comes with primary colored tiles, I think) that should fit your design scheme.  I like the letter and number ones too but thry're not recommended for children under 3 because of potential choking hazard with the small parts.

They kind of stunk when we first opened them (that "new" smell) but we aired them out and two days later it was no problem.  They don't shift at all, have a tight seam (no liquids seeping through to the wood floor) and are super cushy...Libby topples over and doesn't even cry (she did when we had her area rug in there) and we spend hours on the floor with her and are comfortable.  My mom likes them so much she's ordering some for her massage studio since standing for hours on end while giving massages was killing her feet and legs despite wearing Dansko clogs.

  • Did you get the 3/8" or the 1" thick mats? Or the carpet topped?

The space I want to fill is about 8x10 (maybe 8x11?)...so I guess I'd have to go with 6x10 since the squares are 24" each?

Hmm it doesn't say about shipping to Australia BUT they do ship to Canada so I'll have to email them and ask.

  • I got the 3/8" foam ones...you can sort of see them in my siggy pic.  They are textured on the side that faces up so they are non-slip...Libby is fascinated by the texture and touches it inquisitively!  Sounds like you'd need two "sets"...that's what we got too.  I hope they can ship to you...if not, find out what they'd cost if your mom (or me or whomever) shipped them your way.  I'll do it for you, if you like.
  • Is the pink really as bright as it is in your picture? It looks like pale pink on the site.. Ryan and I were just talking about these tonight.
