Lake for a boy

I know that this name is really out there, but for some reason it is really growing on me. Is it too far off the deep end?

Re: Lake for a boy

  • nms....as a teacher I would assume he has hippy parents, but hey, if it's what you like, that's your call not mine.

  • Yes, it is really far out there and I strongly dislike it.
  • Hmmmm...NMS, but...I can see people accepting it as normal mostly.  I went to school with a guy named Parks and another named Rivers.  After a whil that was just there name to us.  There was also a Ridgeway and Ravanna (girl).  I went to a school full of preppy kids with family names. LOL

  • I know a girl named Laken, although this indicates it is unisex. Maybe that would be a better alternative? I'm not a fan of just Lake.

  • It's not that bad. Not my personal taste, but far better than choosing something like Jayden. I think it's gender appropriate, easy to pronounce and spell, and I doubt anyone would really think twice about it.
  • I predict this frequent conversation for your boy:

    "Blake?"

    "No, Lake."

    "Like the water?"

"Um.. okay.  Interesting.  Sounds like you're missing a B"

    Don't do that to him.

Pretty much this. It's spelled correctly, easy to pronounce, easy to say, not made up, and as a noun name myself, the kid might (no guarentee) have fun seeing his name on a bunch of park signs. That's about as low on the list for me as keychains and payscale when considering a name, but just something to add to the pot.

  • I actually knew a guy named Lake, he was from Norway. It's not horrible, but it's NMS.

    Edit: new/knew, wow I can't think today.

  • A little feminine for my taste, but it's not a bad name.

  • I don't like it at all.  Unless you name any future children the following : River, Ocean, Brook, Bay, or Pond.
  • It's NMS. It's a little too out there for my taste.

I really like Blake though and it sounds similar but itsn't too far out there.

  • I like it.

Much better than the Layk that I know.

  • Just wanted to let you know I'm with you...I love the name.  I know a little boy named Lake and he is absolutley freaking adorable.  I say if you like it, roll with it.  I see you're from MN also, maybe that's our style...land of 10,000 lakes and everything...

  • I have two friends who just named their kids Creek and River, respectively, so I've seen a lot of bodies of water lately.
  • It isn't the worst name I've ever heard of, but it isn't something I'd name my kid.
  • At first, I had a really negative reaction, but the more I think of it, the more I can't find anything wrong with it... its just nms.
  • Its not really my style, but I don't hate it or find it overly strange.  I also know a little boy named River, so maybe i'm used to different, earthy names.

  • Love it. But I'm also a Minnesotan. Apparently we all have a fondness for our 10,000 lakes!! It's one of my favorite outdoorsy names.

  • I am not a fan.  I just see people saying "Lake.....like the water lake?"

  • My advice, I personally wouldn't name my kid after a city, or an element (Ie, dallas, Brooklyn, Rain, Stone, etc.) It may sound unique but remember they are stuck with the name, but if you really like it, maybe try it as a mn? Just a suggestion. Its ultimately your choice.
  • My husband's name is Lake Colton! I love it and we plan on using it as a middle name if we have a boy :)

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever!
