Ladies, I need to vent for a moment please. My cousin's FI is pg with their first. I am thrilled for them and sent a 'congrats on the pg' card when they announced it at the begining of second tri. They live in SoCal so I hardly ever see them but we are FB friends so we keep in touch.
Here's my frustration: not only is she throwing her own shower, she keeps linking to her registry on FB. Saturday, Tuesday and again today she has posted "Don't forget K & I's shower is this Sunday at ... at 1pm. We will have lots of food and fun. We have a pinata and games with prizes. We are registered at ...(insert link)" Then today her next status was "I need to go shopping for food for the shower, does anyone have a Costco card that wants to go with me?"
I had originally planned to send a gift to the shower, because I am happy for them, but now I feel like I would be encouraging this behavior. My new plan is to just send a gift when her LO is here.
Re: Ugh, I can't do it (vent)
Ugh, I don't blame you at all for feeling that way. I just got a FB Baby Shower invite for a girl I haven't talked to in years (since she graduated hs the year before me). I won't be going nor will I be sending her a baby shower gift.
You've already acknowledged that they are expecting and if you don't feel that you want to encourage their behavior, I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with sending something for the baby after they're here.

Holy gift grabby!
Plus she wants to use someone's membership to Costco to feed people for this shower? Tsk Tsk.
Um, as far as I know all 300+ of her FB friends are invited so I'm sure some of them have kids?
Thanks ladies, I thought you would agree with me. I feel bad for not sending them something but it just feels so wrong to act like it's okay for her to handle it this way. IMO

I hope the pinata is shaped like one of those horrible pregnant belly cakes
and little dolls fall out of it.
What?? Too much??
LOL We just had a pinata at a BBQ with friends a few weeks ago. I can not remember the last time I laughed that hard. You should totally do it for your birthday when you can partake!! We had candy in ours along with the liquor, excellent combo.

Perfect. I'm with you and would never reward that kind of behavior; I wouldn't rake her over the coals for it (although certainly her mother or someone close to her should), but absolutely I wouldn't participate. Send a gift after the birth as you would have anyway.

What's wrong with using someone's membership? Is it using the membership in general or using it for a party? Because why wouldn't you want to buy your food at Costco if you're having a large party? You're saving money that way!
I think using the membership is fine, using it for the party is also fine, but announcing to all of your guests on facebook that you are using it for the party is tacky.
IMO, it's like helping out your shower host financially. It's fine to do it, but tacky to broadcast it.

I agree that it makes sense to save money by shopping at Costco for a large party, I do it when I host, but for her to post it on FB to me just re-enforces again that she is hosting her own shower.
