Have to go have my thyroid levels rechecked so I went to the lab this morning. First of all, why the hell do they insist on setting the AC at phlebotomy labs to 50 degrees? Like my veins need more reason to retreat? Anyway, convo went something like this:
Nurse: So what do you do for a living?
Colinda: I'm a Spanish interpreter.
N: Oh, wow, so you must speak Spanish!

N: Hmm, I'm having trouble finding your veins. Have you had any water this morning?
C: Yep, a 16 oz glass when I woke up. My veins are a little hard to find anyway, and it doesn't help that it's freezing cold in here.
N: Oh, yeah, you're probably right, it probably doesn't help that it's so cold in here.

N: I'm gonna try a double tourniquet, see if that helps. Hmm, yeah, I think maybe I'll try this one, I can kinda feel it.

N: [pulls out, no _shit, like a 16 gauge needle]
C:
[mentally prepares for this hole punch to be inserted multiple times]
N: [proceeds to not slide it in, but to STAB my arm] Oh good, I got it! Phew, I didn't know if I was gonna. I couldn't really feel that vein.
C:
:::Wondering how long this freaking hematoma you just gave me will last...:::
Re: Ever had blood drawn by someone whose IQ is questionable at best?
Yeah, not good. Not good at all.
"No actually, I don't speak. I interpret for Spanish mimes."
OMG. ::dead:: This is my new line. It's amazing how many people respond to "I'm a Spanish interpreter" with "You must speak Spanish."
