Just wondering if you had any thoughts on this medication? My Dr said I need to take it before my cycle starts to suppress my pituitary gland and prepare for my cycle.
I also heard some bad long term side effects in regards to this medicine but wanted to see your thoughts on this as I'm not familiar with this drug.
Is this a normal/necessary step in the IVF process? Forgive me since this is my first cycle.
Any feedback would be appreciated!
Re: Lupron?
Lupron is pretty standard in the IVF process ( unless you are a poor responder)
I have had headaches from it, but otherwise it has not been that bad for me.

Lupron is standard for a few IVF protocols. I am on it now for my second time. It is gives me the worst side effects of all of the meds. It puts me in a fog - I get forgetful. And the occassional headache. I only take for about 10 days. And when I stop taking it, the fog lifts.
I am sure under normal circumstances, no one would take the levels of meds that we take for IVF. It is just a risk I am willing to take to get pregnant. I wish I didn't have to take all of the meds for a chance at a baby.
Both clinics I meet with used Lupron as part of their IVF protcol. I also had headaches everyday all day. When my dose was lowered to 10 units the headaches lessened.
I also worried about every side effect of all 6 drugs I will be on during this process. I think it is natural to be concerned and worry. At some point you just dive in!
Most of the side effects and long term risks that people associate with Lupron are from Depot Lupron which is taken for 3-6 months at a time for the treatment of Endometriosis or Fibroids.
When used for IVF, the dosage is much lower and the duration is much shorter. It is very, very common and is generally well tolerated.
Lupron is used during your IFV cycle to suppress the pituitary gland - which is the gland which is normally responsible for triggering ovulation. Basically, it prevents you from ovulating before your egg retrieval.
I don't know too much about s/e since I am starting my first dose on Saturday but I hope they aren't too bad!? Reading all these responses now has me worried I'm going to feel like poo while on it
Good luck to you...
