NE1 else taking Tylenol PM to sleep??

Anyone consistently taking Tylenol PM to sleep at night during the last few weeks of PG?  I can't sleep, I went into labor with my 1st in the middle of the night.  So, now I keep thinking the same thing will happen and I stay awake.  I found that Tylenol PM helps me get at least a few hours of rest.  But, now I worry I'll be so out of it if really labor does start.  If you take this do you worry about being sleepy if you were to go into labor??

  • I take 1 every night if i have to work the next day, the doctor is totally fine with it. He also said that Unisom is fine also.

She isn't worried about not knowing she's in labor.  She's worried she'll be drugged out and sleepy from the Tylenol while in labor.

OP, I'd be worried about the same thing, but I'm sure once you are really in labor, adrenaline will kick in and you'll be alert.

  • I can take a Tylenol PM and still be tossing and turning all night.  You will probably be ok.
  • I've always been recommended to take benadryl. It makes me super sleepy pretty fast, but I know it keeps others up instead. That could also be an option for you

Yeah, I take one and it puts me to sleep but if I get startled awake I'm up for the day usually, even if it's only been a couple of hours.

If I'm a lil groggy and out of it for the first few hours of labor, that's fine by me.

  • Yes ma'am!  Tylenol PM, Benedryl and Unisom are my buddies.  Sadly, I think I've become immune to them at this point.

I only recently started taking Tylenol PM.  I've been lucky and haven't had any real pain up until this point.  So depending on what symptoms I was having, I'd take the appropriate drug with the sleepy side effect.

I knew exactly what she meant. TRUST me you will know and you will be awake and up.

  • I take benedryl or tyelnol pm almost every night and I still wake up to pee or during painful contractions. I ended up taking ambien with DS b/c my sleep was so bad. Even with that I woke up off and on during the night feeling contractions.

Tylenol PM has benadryl in it (look at the active ingredients).

  • I alternate between Tylenol PM and Benedryl.  Tylenol PM gives me a sleepy hangover so I try to keep that for the weekends when I can sleep longer.  Dr. says both are fine everyday if needed.  I'm fine being a little groggy during the first part of labor.
