Kindle vs. Nook

I really want an e-reader, BAD, and have been looking at both the Kindle and Nook and trying to figure out which one would be better. I like that the Nook is all touch screen and that you can go to Barnes and Noble and read books, plus the sharing feature is neat (although it is only 1 book at a time). For the Kindle I like that they just came out with a new version so it's up to date, it's super light and I can sync with my iPhone.

If you have one tell me about it's best features so I can decide!

I have a Kindle and the Kindle iPhone app and LOVE it! It is absolutely wonderful!

I did tons of research before getting an e-reader and all of the articles I read said that the Kindle is the best on the market.

I have the Kindle 2 (so obi not the latest model) and really like having the 3G on it as it allows me to download new books where ever I am. I think the $189 Kindle 3 has 3G but the $139 on has wifi.

I have need seen or held a Nook - just read about it so I can't really comment on it - just that I really love my Kindle.

I never really looked at anything else - I LOVE my Kindle! Here's what I really love:

1. It's so ergonomic. The buttons to turn the pages are in absolutely the perfect spots.

2. It's lightweight - even with a cover on it, it fits perfectly in my purse - it's like carrying around an issue of Reader's Digest.

3. Clarity and contrast on the screen. It's so easy to read - like the commercial says - even in bright light. It's so easy on the eyes as well - if you're like me and read for hours and hours on end.

4. Buying new books is so fast - any book or magazine is delivered in seconds.

5. Battery Life is awesome! I go a week between charges easily.

I have to agree to this. I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong) that the Kindle is the only non-back lit e-reader on the market right now. You literally can read it in the bright sunlight without any glare or the screen getting dark - which is great when on the beach!

I have a kindle too. I love how light it is and the buttons on the screen are easy to use. I love being able to get books anywhere I am. I don't have any apple products, but my mom has a kindle and now has the kindle app on her ipad. She loves it.

My biggest complaint about the kindle is that you cannot share books without lending someone your kindle. With the nook, I think, you can lend a friend with a nook a book for 14 days. I really wish my mom and I could swap books.

However, a way around this for us (not a solution for everyone) is that b/c my mom has the kindle app on her ipad, she reads all her books there. She has given me her kindle (I have 2 now). I can read the books she downloads, after she finishes them on her ipad.

I agree with these ladies about how easy it is to read. It's so easy on the eyes! I do, however, wish there was some sort of option for lighting if I'm reading in bed.

I got the Kindle from DH for Christmas and really like it. It's light, is VERY quick downloading new books, the battery lasts a really long time after charging it and it has some type of "glare free" screen so you can take it outside and use it. I only have a few complaints...it doesn't sync that well with my iPhone and it supposedly has "web access" but I find it doesn't really work that well. Of course, I have the previous version of the Kindle and so those issues may have been fixed with the new version. I've never used the Nook, but I'd really recommend the Kindle. I also bought an iPad this weekend and really like the iBook App. However, I wouldn't buy the iPad for just that feature alone as the Kindle is great too and less expensive. How do you ladies get your iPhones to sync so well with your Kindles? I find it doesn't put me on the last page I read on my Kindle and have to go hunting for where I left off. Maybe there is some secret of which I'm unaware? Or maybe it would work better now as I actually just updated my iPhone Kindle App? I'll have to test it out today.

Actually, the Kindle, Nook, Sony e-Reader and others all have this e-ink technology with no back-light or glare....I believe only the iPad actually has a back lit screen, but it's not really just a reader.

I have a Sony e-Reader that I bought years ago (before the Kindle or anything else came out) and I love it. I read every night and the battery lasts me about a month between charges. I'm not sure how much longer it's going to last so I've been looking into my next e-reader and thought I was sold on the Nook (I like Sony, but just want something different). BUT, since Amazon announced their new generation Kindles last week, I'm totally getting a Kindle. They are smaller and faster and it looks like they've ironed out all issues the previous Kindles had.

So my vote is for the new Kindle

Your Kindle has to be syncing back up to the "system" or whatever it is called for your iPhone to recognize that you have been reading.

So, if you have your wifi or 3G turned off, your device will not sync back up and therefore your iPhone cannot pick up your last page via the syncing function. At least this is how my friend explained it to me!

DH bought me a Nook for Christmas and I had nothing but problems with it. The battery life was awful and it constantly froze on me. To "unfreeze" it I had to take the back off, get a screw driver and get out the battery, hook it up to the computer, ect. I had it for six months and only ended up reading three books on it before I decided to sell it.

I have the Nook & I love it. I haven't had any problems with it. Please know that the "lend me" feature only works on certain books. They are working on making it possible to lend any book, but right now that's not the case. I like that the Nook is compatible with more file types & that you can get it with Wi-Fi & 3G transfer. You can also use the Nook as a mini computer, it will let you surf the internet & open documents. It is a little slow for these functions, but it does work. The books cost basically the same on either unit. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This! I bought a Nook for my DH after a ton of research on Kindle, ereader and Nook and he loves it! I got him the 3G +WiFi and he is loving using it. We like the feature that he can read any book while in Barnes and Noble, the browser feature, being able to borrow from the library and the color screen. Although we haven't had it long, so far so great! :-)
