(sorry for all my random questions lately)
I know C is too young for any kind of routine, but I'm curious to know what kind of routine you all have during the day ... like do you always try to get them to nap around the same time, do you always feed as soon as they wake up or change diaper, or feed before they nap, etc. What does your typical day look like? Also, when your LO is awake ... how long do they typically stay up for?
I'm trying to develop some kind of system to start getting some routine to my day, not so much the time, but just more rder to the madness.
Re: What's your daily routine?
I had trouble figuring this out too at the beginning. A book that really helped me with that and with figuring out her cues was "The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems." She refers to her routine as the EASY method - E for eat, A for awake, and S/Y which is sleep/you time. It helped us get some method to our madness.
I don't remember what our routine was back then (sorry!) but I do know that it is very different now.
I see the merits of having her awake after eating but she falls asleep at the breast 90% of the time. Maybe when she's older that will change.
The past few days it's been nurse around 6 or 7am when DH is getting up for work. Go back to sleep with her on my chest in bed. Nurse again whenever she wakes up. Get out of bed between 10-12. Move to the living room. Nurse there, when she falls asleep I try to put her somewhere besides on me and then go grab some food and maybe start some laundry. Nurse, watch TV, maybe a nap for me. Nurse. Nurse Nurse (you get the picture
) DH gets home around 6:30 so I'll hand her off to him and maybe nap or do more laundry. Nurse. Put her in the moby and go to my office and get some photo stuff done. Nurse. give her back to DH. Do whatever needs to be done before bed.
So yeah, no real routine. she usually falls asleep after she eats. or she's awake for maybe 15 minutes then falls asleep. I change her diaper pretty much whenever she wakes up or if she's still fussy after a feeding.
So, no real help here. She runs the show here and probably will continue to do so for the next few months. I haven't personally seen successfully scheduled naps until about 6 months old but every baby is different!
Um, well, yeah. I fail at the schedule. But this is what our day generally looks like give or take a couple hours.
7am - K wakes up. Diaper change. Eat. Sleep in my bed.
9am - K wakes up again. Eat. Poop while eating. Diaper change. Bath. Play until 11am.
11am - Eat. Sleep on me and wake up and scream if I put her down.
12:30 - Wake up. Diaper change. Eat. Play. And if I have anywhere to go, this is around the time I go.
2:30 - Diaper change. Eat. Nap on me and scream if I put her down.
4pm - Diaper change. Timm comes home. Hangs with K. They do yard work with her int he bjorn.
6pm - Eat. Nap.
7pm - Wake up. Diaper change. Eat. Play. Eat. Play. She eats about every 20 minutes until 8:30.
8:30 - Bedtime routine. Diaper change. PJs. Sleepsack. Book. Eat. Sleep.
