any suggestion on how to get him to not throw each little piece of food onto the floor?? im so frustrated and overwhelmed with this whole thing of table foods...he pretty much still refuses everything, excepy bacon and french fries and is still doing stage 2s...im at a loss...the pedi said to stop cold turkey with the baby food and if hes hungry enough he will eat his finger foods. IDK about all that, but i would love some other suggestions. All must be dairy, egg and nut free.

Re: table foods not going well
My pedi said DS could eat pureed foods up to 18 months as long as he was eating SOME finger foods.
Have you tried avocado? My DS loved this when he first started out on finger foods.
To this day at 20 months he refuses veggies so I either sneak into things like meatloaf or I give him pureed carrots, squash, spinach, sweet potatoes and my pedi is totally fine with that.
Maybe he is just not ready yet. I am wondering what the rush is?

Are you eating meals with him? I think that's very important as kiddo's learn by mimicking us. Throwing is a normal phase of learning to eat. The best thing to do at this point is ignore it; if you freak out about it or fuss at him, you'll give him negative associations with finger foods - the opposite of what you want to do. As he gets older, you can teach him to put unwanted food in a bowl or extra plate instead of on the floor.
Offer a variety of different shapes and textures - and let him play with his food - again that's part of the learning process. Show how much you enjoy eating and encourage him to mimic what you are doing. And try not to stress - he may eat nothing or very little sometimes but he won't starve himself. Keep offering healthy snacks throughout the day so that when he does get hungry he has some options.

If we try and feed the food to him, he just purses (sp?) his lips and turns his head away..lol, but thanks for replying!!!

Keep trying different things. I noticed that with our little guy, if it's too soft or hard, he'll toss it to the dog. We discovered that he absolutely LOVES sweet potatoes and blueberries. So if he's cranky, we choose this for part of his meal. He doesn't throw it too much. Try sweet potato fries.....they make some that you can bake. If he likes regular fries, he might likes these. He'll get the hang of it.
If our guy starts throwing one thing, I'll take it away and try a different food......probably not a good habit to get into, but I want to make sure he's eating something. If nothing works, I just give him pureed food.
