My DD is just shy of 8 months. I have been very proud to say that her and I have worked very hard and I have never had to supplement with formula. I pump like crazy and I have an awesome (19 gal) stash for her as a fall back. I am in no way ready to quit now....we have worked too hard and I really wanted to make it a full year.
Well, by total surprise, I found out Friday that we are expecting our second child. While I knew I wanted another one and we feel really blessed I am also feeling hugely overwhelmed with everything in general, but that is a whole different topic.
When I spoke to my OB yesterday she told me that she strongly suggests that I quit nursing/pumping. She said that this is due to the risk of MC (I think she said <remember I was still in shock> that it's because stimulation to the nipples can cause uterine contractions resulting in MC). I had complications at the end of my last pregnancy. She also mentioned the struggle that it would be to provide adequate nutrients to both babies.
So I am slowly coming to grips that this beautiful time in my DD's life will have to come to an end for the sake for her sis/bro. I am pretty emotional about it but it is what it is.
My question is how do I do this? I am not worried about the transition for DD as she is already used the bottle while I am at work. But, how do I wean myself? Is there a way to speed up the process? Less pain? What kind of shirts do you wear when you wrap yourself in an ace bandage? I have heard something about trying cabbage leaves but don't know where to begin with that.
I know this is long but any advise you ladies have would be helpful. Thank you!
Re: suggestions please...have to stop nursing. Docs orders.
You don't have to quit nursing!! Your doc is taking a very dated or misinformed point of view.
Here's some good info on nursing while pregnant: https://www.kellymom.com/bf/tandem/index.html
I plan to keep nursing through this pregnancy unless kiddo decides otherwise. If you are otherwise healthy, it is not a problem to do so!

Congratulations on the new baby!
I agree with the previous comments - unless you have an underlying, additional risk for miscarriage breastfeeding is not a risk. Breastfeeding on it's own while pregnant will not cause a miscarriage. Talk to you doctor again, or get a second opinion. Maybe find a different doctor, or even ask your childs pediatrician what they think about this.
I breastfed throughout my second pregnancy, and am now nursing both children without any difficulty. My OB advised against breastfeeding while pregnant as well - but it was just that, advise only, and it's old-school advice at that. A lactation consultant will have more up-to-date research to quote for you.
It's a personal decision, so do what is right for your family.
Congrats!
I agree with PPs. I have known several women who nursed while pregnant. Their supplies did drop and at some times completely went away, but they didn't miscarry!
