Pricing secondhand baby stuff is so hard for me, so this might be really stupid but can I get your opinion?
We replaced our crappy old baby monitor (ahem, I mean our "as new, always worked perfectly baby monitor") with a much better one (Sony Baby Call for the win!), so I'm selling the old one on ebay. It's a relatively popular monitor here that cost $60 new and we've been using it for about 3 months - no signs of wear, the receiver was never taken outside, etc.
I thought I'd try to sell it starting at $10 with a $20 BIN option. Shipping is $10, so at the BIN price the total cost would be 50% of what a new one would cost. Other people are trying to sell them for $25 start, $35 BIN (which I think is far too high) or $20 start, $49 BIN (for the model with two receivers - ours only has one).
How much would you pay for a secondhand monitor? Do you think I should price it lower? Really I just want the damn thing out of the house and not taking up space...if it's less than $10 I'll probably just donate the thing to the Salvation Army or something and avoid the hassle of having to pack it and take it to the Post Office, etc.
Re: kinda BR - ebay people, does this pricing seem OK to you?
sounds good to me. wish you had posted last week b/c then i would have told you how you could encourage people to buy it now w/the bing 8% CB ebay option. but anyway, i think 50% off is more than fair for a used item that is in like new condition
to avoid losing money on the fees you can list your shipping as more and your starting price/BIN as lower.... most people know why sellers do this and wouldn't think twice about buying, they just take into account the total cost

Oh I hadn't thought of this, thank you!!! Can you tell I haven't sold much on ebay? I have bought plenty of stuff, but I'm new to selling.
I don't have anything helpful to add, I just wanted to concur that selling on Ebay is twicky!
I never know how much to charge for shipping (I take the item to Aus Post and ask them lol).
I also never really know what starting price I should give...starting low attracts more people and they tend to watch the item more but then you don't want the item to go for TOO low a price...
always start by searching for the item and going to completed listings to see what the item is selling for, not just what it is listed for. b/c you may find that others are listing too high and the item is going unsold when the auction ends.
for shipping i always use my kitchen scale to weigh the item, then go online to calculate shipping rates
but for the reasons i mentioned above, a lot of people will start w/high shipping and a starting bid of $0.99 - it gets people to look at the item and keeps your ebay fees down.
