Part time in-home childcare

Does anyone use part time in-home care?  How does it work for you?  While we are happy with our daycare center, we are looking at other possible options once our little girl arrives.  I'm thinking about cutting my part time hours back even further.  Any ideas on what cost I'd be looking at for sending two children for either 2 half days or 1.5 days a week?

  • I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to say congrats on being team pink!

  • We do Part-time in home care...She charges $3 a hour. We love having this option available because both of our parents want to watch the children too.
  • We do part-time as well.  I got lucky and found a woman who is willing to do 1 day one week, 3 days the next, etc.  Most people want 3 days of pay whether you take LO there 3 days or not.  I pay $25 a day and she supplies food.  She's not licensed or willing to do taxes so that I can claim it, but for now it's what works for us.

  • Thanks for your replies!  How did you find your providers?

  • I looked in the paper, but the one we went with was a referral from a co-worker who uses the provider as a back-up.

  • Good luck with your search! Ella is going somewhere new this year being that I'll be part-time. While it was difficult to find someone at first who would work with my arrangement, I am so happy with how things worked out.

The woman that is watching Ella is actually a stay-at home mom, who used to teach and I had her daughter in class last year. I felt comfortable with this situation being that I knew her well and I knew that she had background checks done since she had been teaching. She has two young boys and Ella loves playing with them.

She is charging us next to nothing compared to Maryland rates. We pay $20 per half day and $40 per full when I need it which works out to be $5 an hour.

How wonderful that you can cut back even more!
