Pregnant after a Loss

Post-nasal drip - what can I take?

I ended up sleeping on the couch last night because it got so bad. I couldn't get comfortable and I was keeping DH awake. This is my prime allergy season, and I usually use Nasonex when it gets this bad. But I don't think I can use that now. Any suggestions? I don't want to sleep on the couch forever!

Re: Post-nasal drip - what can I take?

  • My sheet says for nasal congestion: normal saline nasal spray, Sudafed, Actifed, or Benadryl. AVOID cold meds containing alcohol, any multi-symptom preparations and the sustained action products.

I hope you feel better soon.

  • You can take Benedryl or Sudafed if it gets bad, but you could also try Ocean's Nasal Spray. It's safe and you can use it throughout the day as needed. I've been using Ocean's for awhile and overall, it's good. (I used to take Zyrtec D).
  • My dr had me switch from Allegra to Claritin for my allergies.  You can also take Sudafed and a saline spray.  I hope you feel better soon.
  • I just talked with my doctor's office. Her recommendation: Claritin or Ocean's Spray Nasal Wash. Also, Benadryl, but only before bedtime. She said Sudafed would be ok, but not until after the 1st trimester.

Just thought I'd let you know what I found out. Thanks for the suggestions - sounds like our docs are pretty consistent on this one.

  • When I saw first pregnant before second m/c, I had a bad cold/allergies! I took Claritin, and saline nose spray. I also too the vics tablets that you put in the hot shower, and that would "open things up" for a little while.
