Stretchmarks =/

So, I am probably being overly dramatic about my "stretchmarks" that DH thinks don't really exist, but I don't want them and I know they are starting to sneak up on me. I have read a million times that you can't prevent them, if you are going to get them, there is no stopping them...blah blah blah. I need to know how to get rid of them once they have arrived. Do any of the creams REALLY work? Should I start using them now? I already use cocoa butter in the mornings and Mama Bee's Belly oil at night (mainly because my skin is naturally super dry and my belly gets itchy). A friend told me that Maderma was the only thing that worked for her, but it got horrible reviews on Amazon. Any suggestions?

Re: Stretchmarks =/

  • Stetchmarks are basically scars - Unfortunately, there is really nothing you can really do to "get rid" of them after they appear.  They will get lighter and be less noticeable over time. There might be some laser treatments that could be an option, but they are VERY expensive (my sister was looking into them at one time).  And I think they are only available for the purplish/redish ones, not ones that have already turned white/silver.

  • Drat! Stretchmarks suck!! My son is 2.5 yrs old now and my marks are just now starting to be more fleshtoned....and I have them all over my stomach! They have gotten smaller over time and the fleshiness of them makes them pretty invisible to my husband...so that's the good news ;-)

  • I am pretty sure a tummy tuck is the only way to really get rid of them.

  • You've just got to embrace them. :-)  They will fade over time.  Mine from DD are only noticable when I'm super tan and you can see that they are lighter.  They became very noticable when I started getting big with #2 though.  I can't tell if they are new ones, or the old ones showing more, but they are there.  I call them my battle scars.

  • i agree with others, they're just battle scars.  although i don't like them anymore with that name either.  just be happy if that is all there is, with my second, my skin stretched so much that the skin is saggy.  so yucky looking to me, i'll never wear a two piece again.  but my dh is wonderful and tells me it doesn't look bad at all.
  • I was told to just keep everything moisturized and to not scratch (I know it's hard) soas not to traumatize the skin more. Cocoa butter is great.

Mine were never bad -- they didn't start popping up until about 36 weeks and were small -- and they're already starting to fade. Although the most annoyign thing for me is the flame look on the very front of my belly, which I blame in part on the rash I got from my support belt. That skin is crepey and icky.

I'm just using good lotions and sitting it out. They'll fade with time.

  • just blame your mother-they're supposedly genetic.

I think what most people say is true, if you're going to get them nothing you can do about it. I think some people won't get them and used the lotion, so they think that's why they didn't get them. But they could have saved themselves the money and still had none.

I do wonder if the mederma stuff would work, since they are scars. But who knows. I do know DH got some assinine advice on stretchmarks and birth from guys offshore. I wanted to swim out there and punch them all in the balls.

  • I never had them until 1 week post part. they showed up once everything was shrinking down.  I used cocoa butter all throughout my pregnancy.  I have heard they are genetic as well.
  • I scar so very, very very easily.  Like, I have scars from mosquito bites.

I got really bad stretch marks with Marion and by the time I got pg again with this girlie, mine had faded and were really almost invisible.

me too! I will always have the scars as memory of making out in this one field nightly with my hs boyfriend. I always get attacked by mosquitos, but apparently at the time I thought it was worth it!

eta: my derm gave me some bleaching stuff that took care of some of them.

My mom didn't have any!!! I thought for sure I wouldn't get them since I hadn't seen them the first 30 weeks of my pregnancy, not all of a sudden they are starting to appear =/

LMAO at punching those guys in the balls...haha.

  • I didn't use any lotion and didn't get any ...  until Dylan was born!  Then a few popped up, but they're light and have already faded some.  I think it's just luck of the draw.

  • I have a ton and they were really red and they haven't faded much. But I also have a red mark on my face where I had a zit over a month ago. Shesh. I guess it is because I am so pale.
