Parenting after 35

When did you start using a highchair?

Also, I'd like recommendations.

I swear you would never know I've had 2 children! :) My memory isn't what it used to be.

Re: When did you start using a highchair?

  • When I started with baby food and cereal, about 4 months.  I use the Fisher Price space saver, and I like it a lot.

  • We started using it at 4 months--when we started with baby cereal.  At first we used my nephews' old Peg Perego high chair but it was too big/bulky.  We bought a Fisher Price Rainforest one to use from Wal-Mart. We like it a lot--and it has a toy that snaps in so Aaron can't throw it off the tray. lol

We got the space saver when we started solids around six months. I highly recommend it.  After looking at all of the high chair options this seemed perfect.  It has an adjustable height and is really easy to clean. It is so inexpensive we ended up getting another for going out to eat.

  • We have a FP space saver too. Love it! Caroline has been sitting in it since she was about 3 months old, long before she started eating food. It reclines. She hangs out there in the mornings and watches me get stuff ready for the day.

  • 6 months and we started using a Minui HandySitt. It's small and attaches over the back of a chair. It's awesome, but the backs of our chairs are a bit too high so we have to put two cat scratchers underneath to get the seat high enough.

    Klassy, but it works great.

  • Thanks, everybody. I've been feeding him while he is sitting in my lap. It's starting to get difficult because he's trying to reach and grab for the spoon now. :) A couple of times I put him in the swing which worked fine, but I really don't want to mess that up since it's not as easy to clean.

    I definitely need a spacesaver!

  • About the time we started cereal, which was around five months.

We also have the Fisher Price Space Saver and are really happy with it.  It doesn't fold down, but it is still very light and easily transportable.  We take it with us when we visit family.

    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • When we started DD on solids, around 4.5 months. We got a Carter's high chair at BRU (my Ikea high chair was sold out everywhere :( ) and we like it.
  • I started at 6 months using a portable "my little seat" chair andalso her bouncer chair when I started her on solids.. then about a month ago I got the Carter's safari friends wooden high chair.. and absolutely LOVE it.. so compact, sturdy..looks classic, but reclines and goes with our decor. got it at BRU,,

I tried a first years portable seat strapped to a chair.. I didn't feel like it was sturdy enough for a tantrum.. and returned it.. I am now glad I did.. b/c sometimes my little one bends her legs/squirms when putting her in her chair/exersaucer/etc.. so.. I'm glad I now have the highchair.

  • I guess I'm the only one. When we started Sydney on cereal, she wasn't ready for the highchair. We fed her in her rocker on the floor (and us sitting on our bottom stair). She wasn't ready for the highchair until about five months. Ours doesn't recline - maybe that's why?

  • Okay - I realized I don't have the space saver - I have the booster seat.  After reading people's following posts I was like huh? I looked up what I have and it is not called the space saver (even though it saves space). :)

  • Around 5 months or so.  Before that it was bouncy seat on the table.  We bought a $39 one by Cosco from Target that folds down and is just plain awesome!

Same idea as this, except we started solids/high chair at 6 months, and we have the FP Aquarium instead of the Rainforest.

Yes, I actually got the Rainforest booster a couple of weeks ago.  I haven't been able to use it in the house yet because we still haven't set up our dining room table, but I've taken it to restaurants/coffee shops.  Apparently, I wasted a little money and should have bought the healthy care deluxe, because Keira is too old now to be interested in the toy.  But Logan would probably like it -- Keira loved the toy on the high chair back in the day.  :-)

  • We started solids around 4 months too, and we started with DD in the bouncy chair, and used it for probably 5-6 weeks.  Literally, her butt was touching the table before I stopped :)  We have the space saver chair too and I love it.  For a few weeks, I used the bouncer for one feeding and the chair for another and then switched her totally to the chair when she was sitting well on her own and oh so too big for the bouncer!
  • Space saver here...started at 4 months
  • Around 6 months, when LO could sit up properly. Before that we used his swing to feed him cereal, which we started at 4 months. This is the one I got and I love it. Good price, easy to clean and LO is comfortable in it.

  • We have the FP space saver too!  It's not glamorous, but it works.

We started using it when my trying to feed her in the bumbo was killing my back, around 7 months.
