Hello! I had my 40 week appt yesterday - ugh. They don't want you to go past 41 weeks really and my due date was yesterday. I'm going for non stress test on Thursday (which I've been doing weekly) and then to the office to see if it looks like anything is happening. If not, we'll make plans for induction. Everything looks great with the baby so I'm happy about that but definitely nervous about being induced - so if you were -
1.What was it like?
2. Did you end up needing a c-section?
3. If vaginal, how long were you in labor?
Thanks, I'm trying not to be bummed.
Re: If you were induced, can you answer a few questions?
It was really. . . fine! I went to the hospital on a Thursday night to begin cervical ripening. About 4 or 5:00 the next morning they started the pitocin. It was a long day as I progressed very slowly. They did have to break my water. I got "stuck" at several different dialation points, and thing went realllly slow.
My husband and I were a little anxious because we thought that something weird was going on with LO's heartbeat, but the doctors and nurses - who actually know what they're talking about
- said everything was fine.
Several times we did discuss a c-section because I was making such slow progress. Sometime around 4 or 5:00 p.m. they checked me, assuming, I think, that at that point we'd do a c-section - but I was fully dialated and ready to push! I pushed for about 2 hours, and LO was born shortly after 7:00 p.m.
I was really very comfortable throughout most of the day, thanks to a great epidural. Everyone kept telling me, "if you plan on getting one, get one early! There's no reason to be uncomfortable." I agreed
GL to you!
1.What was it like?
I was sick with DS1 (cholelistasis) and had to be induced at 34w5d, so we did not have high hopes.
About 8PM on Sunday night, they put in cervidil, and DH and I went to sleep. I was not dilated, but softish. By 7AM monday AM, I was a fingertip dilated. I ate, and the Dr. came in about 9:40ish. He went ahead and broke my water (despite being pretty closed) and started pit. Within an hour I was out of my mind! Contractions were on top of eachother, and I was freaking out from pain! I asked for an epidural. My nurse was a rip, and said that I may be 1 cm by that point, if I can not handle it then, I would for sure get a section. I told her I did not care, and put drugs in me!
The anest. came in, and put in the epi. Within 20 min, I was unable to move my legs, but still feeling pain. It was determined I needed a catheter so I agreed. While trying to insert it, the nurse noticed "a good bloody show" and decided to check me. I was complete, and he was at 0 station.
The OB rushed back, and Nolan came out at 11:25 am.
AWESOME fast induction, and in the end, the pain was not as bad as I thought it was!
2. Did you end up needing a c-section?
Nope. My OB did not expect much with me, and was going to "section" me by dinnertime.
3. If vaginal, how long were you in labor?
under 2 hours!
With Lincoln, I had a leak in my water, so they ruptured me, and let me go for a while. I did get some pit, but his L&D was 4 hours start to finish.
I have great history with induction, and probably will be induced with this one too.... as controversial as it is!
1.What was it like? Boring, to be honest. They did the Cervadil (sp?) first, nothing happened for 12 hrs. DH even went home to sleep. Then the Pitocin and that didn't start anything either. I did a lot of Facebooking, texting and tv watching through the whole thing. My epidural cut out partially after a few hours and I was just uncomfortable all around.
2. Did you end up needing a c-section? I did, I never dialated. After being in the hospital in bed and hooked up to all sorts of IVs and whatnot for 28 hours, I was happy to have the c-section.
3. If vaginal, how long were you in labor?
1. WAY easier than my first spontaneous labor
2. Nope!
3. I was 5 days overdue, went in at 2cm (was my 2nd baby). Started pit at 6am, I watched a lot of tv, took a nap (without drugs, there was really no pain which I thought was strange since I heard pit contrax are bad), knit, was over all VERY bored. Doc broke my water at 3:30pm, got an epi at about 5 and ds was born at 6:03. It went REALLY quick after he broke my water. Ds was 9lb11oz too!
I was super scared with everything you hear about inductions but it was really a breeze!
GL!

Aww, I know it's disappointing not to be able to go into labor on your own.
1. My induction was quiet, calm, and clinical -- so not what I imagined labour to be. Of course I did get the epidural, which certainly helped with the quiet and calm. I was, unfortunately, lying in bed hooked up to monitors the entire time.
2. No, I didn't need a c-section. It was mentioned once, because DS's heart rate was dropping when I pushed, but he made it out okay. Turned out the cord was wrapped around his neck, which is apparently common. He came out "stunned" but recovered quickly and was snuggling with me within about 10 minutes.
3. I had the Cervidil in for 24 hours (at home) but it didn't do much. I was finally admitted at 6:00 p.m., and they broke my water and started Pitocin. Got the epidural around midnight (4cm dilated). Fully dilated by about 8:00 a.m. but because of the heart rate issues I had to wait an hour until OB got there before I could start pushing. DS was born at 10:50 a.m. So, if you don't count the time with the Cervidil, it was about 16.5 hours from beginning to end.
Good luck!
1.What was it like? They started Cytotek(?) at 11:00 pm and then Pitocin around 7:00 am. It was a little slow going and I blame a nurse for the long labor. DD kept slipping off the monitor because she was so active. The nurse mistook that as signs of distress. Really, DD was very mobile in-uetero - heck, she still is! Twice, the nurse killed the pitocin drip - didn't turn it down - she killed it. When they would re-start it, it was almost like starting from scratch again. Finally, the charge nurse told her to insert the internal monitor for DD and leave the Pitocin alone! (Thank God!)
The other issue with the long labor was that my epidural wore off. By the time I was ready to deliver, there were no drugs. They called in the anesthesialogist again but they didn't want to give me too much since I'd want to be up and around soon. My doc was literally poking me with a needle between contractions to see if I could still feel it. If I could, they'd up the drugs a little.
2. Did you end up needing a c-section? No, but they did have the paperwork ready for it if we needed a c/s.
3. If vaginal, how long were you in labor? 23 hrs, 48 mins
We've all heard people say that they'd do it all over again and believe me that's true. I would double my time in labor if it meant at the end I'd get to hold my precious little girl. You'll hear all kinds of stories about easy labors, hard labors. Just remember that every labor is different and all your own. Try not to stress over it and enjoy it - pain and all. It's an amazing experience! GL!!!
I was induced at 38 weeks by my mfm. I was being induced due to some medical issues.
I went in on a Tuesday morning at 7 and had cervadil inserted to ripen my cervix at around 9. I was only dilated to a 1 at the time. So basically all that day we just sat around in the room and visited with some of my family that was there. The nurse took the cervadil out at 9 that night and I was at a 3 but not having any contractions. My mfm decided to let me get some sleepTHat night they gave me some medicine to help me sleep and I got the best night of sleep that I had in months!
The next morning they started the pitocin at 7 and upped the amount ever half our I believe. I started contracting, but it wasn't super painful and it was not helping me dilate either. Around 4 that afternoon I asked for some pain meds and she recommended to go ahead and do the epi and also she broke my water. By 8 that night I still had not dilated past a 3 and dd hadn't dropped any further so I did end up having a c/s.
The c/s was actually not horrible. I did not have much pain afterwards either.
I know it's all scary..because it's unknown. In the end, you will have an awesome prize though! GL!!
Coming late to this....
I was scheduled for an induction a week after my due date. The day before, at 3 am, my water broke and to the hospital we went. So... you may not NEED an induction yet.
however, my labor was not progressing at all, so I still was induced that morning.
Long story short, I had DS at 3:59 that afternoon. So just over 12 hours of labor.

I was induced at 40w5d and it was really fine, even if it did take a while!
I was 2-3cm dilated, probably 40-50% effaced when I came in. The plan was to start me on pitocin and break my water immediately when I got in at 10:30pm. They did both, but unfortunately, we didn't realize until 10am the next day that my water was not totally broken (I think they broke the forebag and not the actual bag, but wow was there a difference between how much fluid came out at 10:30pm vs 10am). Because of that, I really didn't get started until 10am. By the time I was 5cm and fully effaced (around 3pm), I was ready for the epidural. I chilled out and watched tv with DH until 7pm when the doctor came in and said I was at 10cm. I was blissfully unaware. I pushed for two and a half hours before the doctor declared I wasn't making progress and gave me the option of forceps or c/s. I went with forceps. Once they set everything up, he came out in the first contraction (with four pushes).
So no c/s.
But I was close - I think that had more to do with his size than the fact that I was induced (he was 8lbs, 7oz).
All said and done, he was born at 10:23pm, so I was in labor/delivering for almost 24 hours, but really, it would have been shorter if it wasn't for the mixup.
Please don't be bummed, you get to meet your little one soon!
It was fine. I did have a section as my labor was arrested, I never progressed passed 4 cm and I was having insane contrax they were worried dd could not handle for much longer. Plus they had broken my water hours before.
Basically if u get induced be prepared with the remote and some magazines. I just laid there for hours-I had opted for an early epi so I could not walk anywhere. GL and I promise it is really not bad at all.
I had a wonderful induction.
We arrived at the hospital at 4pm on Wednesday, March 18. I was not dilated and was about 75% effaced. They inserted cervidil. The next morning, I was taken to LD and was given pitocin around 9am.
Checked at 1:30 and I had only progressed to 1.5cm. I thought this was going to be a long day! My doc broke my water and things kicked into high gear. I got an epidural and took a nap.
When I woke up, I was feeling pressure. I was 10cm and ready to push! I pushed for 25 minutes and Jacob was born at 5:25pm.
Overall, I was in labor for about 9 hours and it was a really great experience! I hope yours is as good as mine!
I was induced with DS.
1. Induction brought on the contraction fast and hard. It was not a great experience for me. 2. I ended up needing a c-section b/c DS went into fetal distress while I was in labour.
