My poor little guy is having bowel troubles. He was grunting up a storm when I went to get him this morning and when I changed him he had one small pebble of really hard poop. He was so miserable.
I called his pedi and they said to give him 1 TBS of dark karo syrup with 2 ounces of apple juice.
Has anyone used this? How fast did it work? What was the outcome? I mean, did it cause diarrhea?
TIA

Re: Constipation cure ?
Make sure you buy a new bottle of karo syrup and not use an old one due to the risk of bacteria. I did it and it didn't work.
It did help a little more when you add it directly to his bottle/milk. The best for me was putting 1 oz of apple/prune juice with 4-5 oz of formula. I did this twice a day until she was regular and did maintained it every other day. Now that she eats solid, she gets 1/3 a container of stage 1 prune every morning mixed with a container of fruit. This has made her regular ever since.
I have the same issues with my DD. I just had to resort to the Qtip/Vaseline method. It didn't work immediately like some people said it would, but in the long run it made her go.
I also was feeding her a lot of "white foods" (apples, bananas, pears, rice cereal, etc.). I read that those can be constipating. So for the last couple days I have been avoiding those foods and feeding her green/orange foods, and she seems to be going more frequently and easier.
BFP with no treatment!
Thanks, ladies. For now, Evan is still on 1/2 breastmilk 1/2 formula, so I have no idea what is causing this. We tried giving him water over the weekend and he made the funniest yuck face and then started crying.
DH was worried about the Karo syrup, so we just gave DS an ounce of apple juice before his last feeding. We are going to try this twice a day (or prune juice) and see if that helps. If not, we may try the karo syrup.
The pedi said the q-tip wouldn't really help since he has really hard stool. I am glad because I didn't want to have to try it. I would if it would help him, but I wasn't looking forward to it.
We may try solids again this weekend. I think we may try either pears or prunes.
Thanks again for the advice.

We did prunes for a few days and that helped.
Our pedi told us we could mix Maalox (the powdered stuff) in with his food. Probably about 1/4 of a capful (1/4 of the adult dosage). He said it's perfectly safe.
