Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Whose LO has a "lovie" or other snuggle toy/blanket/animal?

Just curious. My DD slept in a friend's LO's crib while we over at their house the other day. He had 3 or 4 of the blankies with the animal head on top (I don't know what these are called) in his crib. She grabbed one and snuggled up with it right away.

I haven't been letting her have a toy in the crib due to SIDS but it seemed like a great "transitional" item to help her to sleep quicker. (She has always been a good sleeper- STTN since 6 weeks old.) It just seemed like this cut the fussiness in going to sleep, in half.

So who else lets their LO use a "lovie" or other item to help go to sleep? Am I the only bad mommy?

  • At 6months we gave her "baby lamb"  a super soft lamb from Douglas Toys!  I bought 2 just in case something happened to her.
  • Ah, you're not a bad mommy!

My DD has slept with a lovie since I de-swaddled her at 4 months. It definitely helps her fall asleep. She only gets one though. We have two I that I alternate for washing.

  • Lilly has had a small stuffed purple elephant that she has slept with every single night since she was born. She like to suck on the trunk...eww. I wash it every now and then but, due to her eating solids its kinda a orange color now Embarrassed ew. She loves it though; she won't sleep without it. Its the first thing she grabs when she goes to lay down and get comfy.

  • DD has a lovie that my mom knit.  It is a blanket only, no animal attached.  When she is falling asleep for her naps she really loves to be holding on to and touching something.

So I lay it across her lap for naps.  Strangely she doesn't need it at all when going to bed and she just talks herself to sleep.

  • DD has to go to sleep with her lamb.  It's a random stuffed toy my mom put in her Easter basket.  She started sleeping with it at 3 months.  She LOVES that thing - she reaches out for it the second I put her in her crib.
  • My DS has his blankie and seahorse. I started using a blankie a few months ago.

  • We have a bunny lovie. I put in under my shirt while getting him ready fir bed so it has my scent. Then give it to him with his bottle. Has helped.

  • For the past  weeks I noticed that when LO is tired he likes to chew on things so after I put him in his crib I give him a burp cloth. He puts it right up to his face.
  • DD has a bunny lovie that up until this point I had just placed by her side when she fell asleep.  It would help her fall back to sleep when she woke in the middle of the night.  Suddenly in the past 3 days however, she cries and cries until I give it to her and she immediately settles down and falls asleep.  Definitely showing some attachment to it now!

  • Nope.  DS1 didn't get any sort of "lovie" or stuffed toy until well past 1yr old, and same will be true for DS2.  It's just not worth the SIDS/suffocation risk.  My LO sleeps in Halo sleepsacks to avoid the loose blanket worry.
