I spent the afternoon taking DD to an Ophthalmologist and we learned that Amelia has a rare eye disorder (Blepharochalasis). Now that we know what's happening we are going to speak with her pediatrician and check out her heart as it's linked with Congenital Heart Disease. We're praying that she's ok, but we'd rather be safe than sorry. The next time it swells we have to take her to a specialist (oculoplastic plastic surgeon) in the medical center to see if there is anything we can do for it.
I hope that any of you mommies reading this will know that if your gut tells you that something isn't right with your child then you should pursue it, ask questions, get second opinions and don't stop until you're satisfied with the answers. I have taken Amelia to the pediatrician numerous times and I was told each time it was allergies and to give her Benedryl and it would go away. I never felt like we got answers and never felt satisfied with the diagnosis...it was only impacting one eye, how could it be allergies? We were just prescribed expensive eye drops last week to aid in relieving her "allergies."
I found out today that my gut was right, I was giving her medicine she didn't need and it was indeed not allergies. Now that we know what the issue is we can work toward a solution for the real problem.
Follow your gut!
Re: trust your gut feelings!
I hope everything is okay and so glad you got real answers. I sometimes feel like docs give you the answer they know for fear of giving you an answer you don't want to hear.
As a mom we can take it. Good and bad. We just want what's best for our kiddos.
Hugs to the both of you and I hope her other tests come back with good results.
I really hope and pray that her heart is perfect and healthy.
Definitely follow your gut even if you feel like a paranoid parent!
So glad you are getting some answers. Reminds me of the Dr. Spock quote on the back of his books.
?Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.?
Good for you! Thats happened to me too...Sometimes Docs think we're over reacting but mommies know when something is wrong!
I hope everything else turns out OK!
Ditto this. Hope the other tests come back fine!
My goodness! I do tend to trust doctors a lot. so definitely need to rethink that at times.
Hope Amelia's eye situation is worked out easily, and even more so that her heart is perfect!
