I know you are doing BLW and I was wondering what you are feeding her. Bella eats EVERYTHING under the sun, well minus dairy and eggs. She got a butt rash after scrambled eggs (which have milk and eggs) and pancakes (also milk and eggs) so we nixed both for awhile and will try them one at a time to see which one is causing this.
Anyhow, what are you making for her? I feel like when I bake sweet potatoes they are still so soft and hard for her to pick up... any suggestions on stuff for the BLW?
Re: **Libby's momma Lori**
Hey Sarah! There's lots of support and recipes available at www.babyledweaning.com ... many of the gals are from the UK, so their terminology is different (porridge and courgette, etc.) but their are some No. Americans on there too.
Right now Libby is pretty much in the tasting, feeling and smelling stage...she's only nibbled here and there (there have been tell tale signs in her diaper)!
I cut everything into "chip" shapes (which again, in our terms is more like stick shape...like a french fry) so she can handle them easily and move them into her mouth on her own. For her 2-3" long seems best so she has enough hanging out of her hand to gnaw on...
Here's what she's had thus far:
Sweet potato, Zucchini, Carrot, Broccoli, Asparagus, Summer squash, Avocado, Green Beans, Plum, Peach, Nectarine, Banana, Apple Sauce, Plain Yogurt, Hummus, Happy Baby Puffs, Mum Mums (Rice), Whole Grain Toast, rice pasta, scrambled egg yolk (the whites can be allergenic until after age 1), turkey meatball with a little tomato sauce and Grilled Pork Chop.
The veggies are usually grilled or roasted with a little olive oil, except the beans and broccoli have been steamed. The stone fruit was given to her whole (I bit off a small piece to expose the flesh and let her at it)...if you do this you have to really watch for when they get close to the pit. I've tried halving the fruit and removing the pit, but then it's too slippery for her to handle.
The pork chop was lightly seasoned and grilled and I cut off a 3" x 0.5" strip that she sucked and chewed on for a bit.
Roasted carrots and sweet potatoes are her favorite right now...
The sweet potato I cut into half and then quarters and then eighths, leaving on the skins (washed) so their like wedge fries. I put them on a foil lined baking sheet, coated in a little olive oil and bake on 325 untl tender but not mushy. She uses the skins as a sort of grip and scrapes the soft flesh off by chewing and sucking on it. The carrots I quarter into sticks and cook the same way (often together) until I can pierce them easily with a fork (any firmer could be a choking hazard).
There's some pics on FB of Libby's recent mealtimes.
Anyway, hope that helps! Check out the site and maybe the book on BLW...also, if you Google BLW recipes a ton will come up (again, most are from the UK).
