so this may be a dumb questions - but why do most of the convertible cribs convert to be full size beds and not twins - when they are daybeds is there a way to take one side off so that it is like a normal twin? To me it makes more sense for a kid to be in a twin then a full.

This--if you want one that converts to a twin, you need to get a mini crib. If you want one that converts to a full, you get a regular crib. I think both regular and mini can also convert to toddler bed.
