My dr. just recently told us that "caffeine is fine" and won't hurt the baby at all. I still am slightly nervous. What is everybody's take on this issue?
I keep it to less than 100mg a day. I think the problem with too much caffeine is dehydration, so as long as you drink a lot of water along with it, it's fine. And it helps keep the headaches at bay.
I think it's weird that all of a sudden caffeine is ok. I heard that too. I drink very little....sips of DH's coffee or cola, but I don't even drink my own. I can't help but think of that thing where they gave spiders different drugs and showed pictures of their webs afterwards. The ones where the spider had caffeine were more messed up than any other drug. If that's even true...has anyone else seen that?

Caffeine has never been NOT okay. I was last pregnant over 4 years ago, and it was the same recommendation then - keep it under 200mg/day and you're fine.
It's a bump land phenomena that you have to do away with all caffeine all the time.
I keep my consumption to under 100 mg a day. I've been getting really bad headaches and theres nothing like a pepsi to help with the headache. Tylenol alone just doesnt do it for me.

I don't drink coffee - so the only big caffeine intake for me is diet soda. Diet soda has approximately 35-40 mg of caffeine. I drink one or maybe two a day - so I definitely stick to under 200mg. I do eat chocolate - but the caffeine in that is also minimal.
I don't drink a caffeinated beverage everyday, but I will have about one or two a week. I just find it easier to not start the day with coffee, or else I'll be up and bed rest will suck that much more!

Bryce Addison I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
Our baby boy was born sleeping on 9.17.10. He was 19w1d.
I do tend to avoid caffeine in general. If I really feel like a caffeinated beverage I'll drink it. Right now I'm drinking hot chocolate - that has caffeine in it. I really want a diet coke most of the time and will treat myself every now and then.

See, the only person ever to tell me "caffeine is fine during pregnancy" has produced three diabetic, adult-ADHD having children.
I have some other risk factors going on, so decided to cut it out entirely. However, my medium decaf gets me through the morning. Gotta love the placebo effect.
I avoid it at all costs but I also did that prior to becoming PG due to a heart arrhythmia. Sometimes caffeine doesn't affect me but other times it makes my heart go crazy so between the stress of PG on my body and the already present arrhythmia I don't want to venture there.
I don't really know why some women freak out about their intake of caffeine though. Caffeine is okay as long as it is in moderation. You shouldn't sit there and drink nothing but Mountain Dew all day but having a 20oz bottle isn't going to do any harm.
I switched from my daily large mug of strong, dark coffee to green tea while we were TTC and I've stuck with the green tea ever since. I occasionally drink pop w/ caffeine when I eat out, but try to stick to water. I've seen a lot of articles that say if you stick to under 100 or 200mg of caffeine you're fine, but the biggest problem with caffeine is the baby doesn't know how to handle it like we do so it affects the LO a lot more.

A take a few sips from my husbands Coke every once and awhile. My sister drank 3 cups of coffee a day with her second. She was working 12 hour shifts and coming home to a 7 month old and could barely stay awake. I have several friends who didn't give up caffeine at all. I feel its better safe than sorry.

I love cherry Cokes.... so its best for me to go without... or risk having WAY to much.... but all bets are off when Pumpkin Spice lattes come back to starbucks
I try to avoid it for the most part, but when I get a headache, the only thing that helps is taking tylenol and drinking a cup of coffee. The tylenol alone doesn't even touch it. When I do drink coffee, I keep it to one cup a day.

I have heard a couple of people say that they drink green tea, and I almost got some at the store the other day, but then saw in the Pregnancy Day by Day book that green tea can slow the baby's growth...
I hate all the can have/can't have things... I have caffeine occasionally but stopped the daily coffee.
