Re: how much weight have you lost and whats your secret??

  • I gained 27 lbs while pregnant and have lost it all and the only thing I have done is EBF. Though now my belly is all soft so I need to work on getting some muscles!

  • I've lost all my PG weight, plus a couple extra pounds (yay!).  My big 'secret' was joining Weight Watchers on June 1st.  Before then, the only weight I'd lost was the typical water weight, etc. from delivery.

I do the online version (no meetings) and I really like the way you track everything you eat and you see it all in black and white.  I also really like the fact that I've never once felt like I was dieting - If I want a bowl of ice cream, I eat it.  Now I just plan for it instead of being so spontaneous with my decisions to eat unhealthy food.

You should check out our WW forum (see the link in my siggy) - It really helps to talk out stuff with other Bumpies going through the same thing.  We'd love to see you there!

  • I've lost all but 2 pounds of my preggo weight (about 30 pounds lost so far).  I didn't do anything special and I am hungry alot, but I figure if it's a healthy snack then I don't worry about it.  We do go for walks all the time and we dance a lot! ;) I've recently started working my arms by taking her "flying" over my head!  I do run, but I haven't been able to consistently, so I don't think that's what made me lose the weight!  I did exercise regularly while I was pregnant and I was in good running shape before being pregnant, so I think that helped.

  • I didn't gain all that much while pregnant, then BFing and having an extra large child managed to take it all off. With the belly sag, I've started to do yoga again and that is tightening everything up. Good luck!

  • I've lost all 30 lbs I put on in pregnancy and lost 5 on top of that! I didn't even breastfeed, so I attribute it all to my eating. I eat clean, don't eat fast food or processed and don't let myself drink more then 2 drinks a week ( unless it's a special event). I give myself a day to cheat a week, so I can enjoy some sweets. I am a runner also, so I found that has helped me tone up. My jelly belly is officially gone, which is great, it stuck around along time after DS1.

My advice is..write it down. You bite it, you write it. Then you can really see what you eat in a day. I don't let myself eat more then 1300 calories a day, which I fill with fruits and veggies so I never go over.  Also try to fit in a few days of week of light exercise if you have a bad knee~ walks, small amounts of weight's. Good luck!!

  • I've lost all the pregnancy weight plus I'm down 14 lbs what I was before I got pregnant.  I thank genes (my mom lost preg weight fast, so did sis), EBF, not working (ate out a lot on lunch breaks when I was working), and luck.  I try to eat well, but I do love oreos.  A lot.

Yes write it down. A few months ago I started writing down what I ate, and I realized I was inhaling 2000 calories a day in crap!  Gross. Just a bite here or there, or sharing my sons snacks with him. So I stopped and my weight just came right off!

I can't give you any advice on the BF front (DD is FF), but I do know that BF mamas get 10 extra daily points on WW.

This.  Except I gained 50 lbs.  The soft belly and muffin top is awful!

  • I gained a lot of weight - in the neighborhood of 50 lbs. I lost 25 in the first 6 wks w/o even thinking about it. Since then, I exercise 6 days a week - running, walking & the 30DS. It took 3 weeks for it to start coming off (a very hard 3 wks to stay motivated with no results) but once it started coming off, I only have 10ish lbs to go. Best part is, the majority of my clothes fit! Oh & DS is EBF.

  • Gained 35 and lost all of it.  I haven't exercised once yet so I attribute it to BFing.

  • Gained 18...down 40.  I breast fed for the first 8 months and now add in formula occasionally.  I also eat McDonald's every day and don't exercise since I sit in front of a computer at work all day.

  • I lost all 47lbs I gained in two weeks, but to be honest, most of it was water weight.  I've decided to keep going and have lost a couple more.  I go to a one hour spinning class Mondays and Wednesdays.  Tuesdays and Thursdays I run for 20 minutes and do strength training.  I cut out eating out, except for special occasions, and I don't eat pre-packaged dinners.  Oh, and I've stated bringing my own food to IL's because they eat terribly and I don't want the temptation.  Hope this helps.  Good Luck!!
  • Breastfeeding and working out.  I lost my weight with both pregnancies in the first couple of weeks.

I teach group fitness, so I was back into full workouts by 6 weeks.

I don't restrict my calories while breastfeeding, but when LO starts solid food, I have to start watching what I eat a bit more.

This is so gonna sound like a flame, but I don't mean for it to be: Why do you eat McDonald's everyday???

  • I gained 20lbs when I was PG and I now weigh 5 lbs less than my PrePG self. I still have work to do (stuff saggs that never sagged before), but I feel good. I was not able to work out during the first 12 wks PP due to health issues, so I solely contribute my weightloss loss to EBF. Unless I just got lucky?

  • Gained around 35lbs. I am back to my prepregnancy weight. It's no secret - eating healthy, lots of water, lots of walking. Haven't started working out. I EBF.

  • I gained 55 pounds while pregnant and as of today I am down 48 pounds.  I started weight watchers in May and I work out 5 days a week.  I do it online too and it is great!! I have always had a problem with portion control so that is why this diet works for me.  GL!
  • I only gained 23 lbs so thought it'd be a breeze to take off, and it definitely hasn't been. It hasn't helped that I had to stop breastfeeding at about 5 weeks. Right now I'm still about 7 lbs up from pre-preg, and 12 lbs. up from where I'm happiest. Over the past couple of weeks I finally got serious and starting writing down what I eat (it really is the key!), and trying to stay under 1500 calories. I also plan on having a serious talk with DH soon to work out a schedule for allowing me time to exercise, since just walking with DS hasn't seemed to do much. I am squeezing into pre-preg pants, but it isn't pretty.
  • I gained about 25 lbs during my pregnancy and have lost all of it and then some.  I am doing WW (I attend meetings) and I have been really happy with it.  I did WW before my wedding and lost 25 lbs.
  • I gained 50lbs and have lost all but 10lbs. EBFing, drinking lots of water and eating less sweets.
    DD1 - 2010 TTC v2.0
  • I gained 50 pounds and lost 35 in the first 2 weeks. After that, I stayed around the same weight until 12 weeks pp. Then I joined sparkpeople.com to track my calories (aim for 1200-1400 per day). I quit eating out for lunch and haven't had one bite of the goodies that are frequently brought in at work. I do let myself have one cheat meal per week. I squeeze in a 30 minute workout everday before I pick LO up from daycare, but I relax on the weekends and don't work out. Since May 18 when I started this, I've lost 16 pounds, which puts me 1 pound below my pre-pg weight. Unfortunately, I'm still one size up from my pre-pg pants. I'd like to lose another 15 pounds or so.

  • I gained 51 pounds and am now 5 under my pre-pregnancy weight.  The first half just happened in the first 5 weeks.  The rest is Weight Watchers.  I go to the meetings every week and the support of the group really helps me.  The biggest thing is writing everything down.  DS and I went to the gas station today.  He got a candy bar.  I contimplated a 3 point peppermint patty...but decided on the 0 point gum.  Gum helps me a lot, because when I'm chewing it I can't eat other food!!!

  • Well it looks like I'm the only one having trouble like you are!  I still have 10 lbs to go - I gained about 20 when pregnant.  I weighed 105 pre-preg and now I weigh 115.  I think some of the weight is in my breasts honestly, but I have found that I am having to eat a lot more while breastfeeding or else my supply drops.  My dr. said I need 500 extra calories at least per day to keep up the milk.  I am walking more than I used to but who knows why it won't go away!  I'd rather breastfeed than lose the weight though...we'll see.
  • 1300 calories is not enough if you BF.  If you EBF your LO is taking around 300 calories from you a day.  That means you're surviving on 1000 calories a day which is ridiculous.  Kellymom says at least 1800.

I didn't see anyone who said they BF and eat 1300 calories.

I was BF when I started WW and I weaned over a 2 week period.  It was hard to give up those 10 points, but I did gradually give them up over the 2 weeks.

Youre right.  I was combining 2 posts in my head.

  • I gained 30 lb when I was pregnant. I lost it all plus an extra 15. I like to think it's all due to BFing but I think it has more to do with how physically involving DD was the first few months. Now I make sure to take daily walks with her.
  • I gained 35 lbs and lost it all. All I have done is EBF. I wish I could help you out. I do walk about 0.5 miles every day to and from work. I take the stairs when possible. But I don't have any other consistent excersise routine. I try to eat more veggies and fruits, but I am not faithful to any eating routine since I have to take of LO when I get home.
