Projectile spit up

Just yesterday, Reese started projectile spitting up. When it happens, it seems like she spits up everything she just ate, & it is amazing how far this stuff flies! Her bassinet sheets were soaked with it this morning--all the way down to her feet! It doesn't seem to bother her, but it bothers me. Anyone know why this is happening all of a sudden? Is it something I need to call the pedi about?

Re: Projectile spit up

  • Jason had that as a baby... it would shoot 6 feet across the room - and it was scary as hell.  They never found a reason.  Though I've heard that sometimes it's an allergy to the formula.  Are you nursing or formula feeding?

  • I'm nursing. We haven't introduced the bottle yet, so she's exclusively eating from the breast. I was just doing some reading on Kelly's Mom, & I'm thinking it may be a forceful let down because she has been covered in milk after her feedings, & she pulls off sometimes when the milk let's down. I think it might be too forceful for her.
  • It could be reflux (admittedly I blame everything on reflux). But the first clue we had about Bs reflux was projectile spitting up. If it doesn't bother her though, hopefully you are in the clear!
  • I remember Soph doing this every so often when she was a newborn. It really is scary...but it never seemed to bother her.

It could be reflux if she keeps it up and she seems upset.

P.S. She is such a cute little nugget! Adorable :)

  • It's normal, but if you want reassurance call your Pedi.  The only thing that can "be done" about it is possible reflux meds.....or they'll grow out of it (if you can stand to deal w/ it)!  Annoying to hear but I guess it's true.
