I have an Avent and a Nuby. With both of them, DD seems to be struggling to get anything out, and when I tried I found it kind of difficult as well. I have them on the fast setting.
I use the playtex kind. They are pretty cheap too. What worked for us was taking the stopper out for a bit and helping him drink. After a while we just put the stopper in and he was good to go.
Avent is a total pain to clean. Natalie did better with straw cups. Not sure what brand we have though. I kind of had to show her how to do it first. I'd take a sip out of it then give it to her so she could try. She got it after a few times of that.
