Parenting after a Loss

A few questions about sippy cups

How many should I get?

Are there ones that are bite and suck with a straw? LO already knows how to use my camelbak that does this.

When transistioning to sippy, should I start offering his bedtime sippy with dinner? He is in the routine of bottle during bedtime.

Re: A few questions about sippy cups

  • Yes, this is a bite & suck type straw - my LO loves it!!

I can't really answer your other ?'s because right now my LO is still nursing, but we use the sippy for water as practice. I have 2 for now, but will get a couple more when he starts using them for milk.

  • My suggestion would be to buy 1 to start off with, until you know that your LO will like it. It took me several tries with DD to find a cup she'd drink from. Her and DS1 both loved the Nuby with the silicone top; we used those as a transition cup, then switched to the hard top kind (they leak less for us).
  • We have been giving a sippy with water since we started solids at 5 months. We have tried many styles and brands - which I think you have to do in order to find what LO likes. We love the Take & Toss sippy cups and straw cups. No big deal if you lose one and recyclable :)

  • We initially bought a sippy that had a hard top but LO had a hard time with that one.  The next one we tried was the Nuby no drip sippy and LO loved thatone.  She eventually started being able to use the hard top one too.  Recently we boughta set of cheap take and toss ones because I agree with lkstor that they seem to leak less.  But, when LO tosses them on the floor the top has the potential to come off.

I give LO a sippy cup with water for all of her meals.  She still gets 3 bottles a day.

  • We love the munchkin sippy with straw/flip top. It's super easy to use and Dylan figured it out within 30 seconds. We also have the born free sippy but he does better with the straw type. I say get one and try it before buying multiples. We are adding one new munchkin straw sippy each time we go to the grocery store - they are super cheap ($3/each).
