Switching to One nap

Any advice? What signs did your LO show of being ready? When did they typically go down for their nap and how long of a nap did they take? Thanks.

Re: Switching to One nap

  • I am fighting it with all my might.  He won yesterday, but I won today.  I am not ready for him to go to one nap.

  • DD has always sucked at taking 2 naps: one was super long and the other super short; one was tot late in the day; etc.

It just kind of happened one day. She takes a nap around 10 or 10:30am. She will nap anywhere from 1hr to 3hrs. It is not perfect, but she is sleeping better at night....for the most part.

  • DD has moved to one nap a day in the last week.

I knew it was time when she wasn't ready to go down for her morning nap as early, and when she put up a huge fuss for her 2nd nap.

I've started by pushing back her morning nap by one hour.  Now she'll sleep (like she is right now) for about 2 or three hours between breakfast and lunch and then not need to take a 2nd afternoon nap.

I actually really like this new schedule, b/c the one nap that she does take is pretty long and I can get a lot done.

  • Thanks. Natalie usually goes down at 11am and sleeps til noon or 1 pm. If she is up at noon then she will take a second nap but if she's up at 1 she won't. We pretty much take it day by day I guess.

The thing I have trouble with is her getting tired earlier then normal when she takes only 1 nap. She's super cranky around 5:30 but won't go down (nor do I want her to nap that late).

  • DD moved to one nap about two weeks ago. Her morning nap kept getting shorter and shorter. She's up between 8-9 naps 12-3 and goes to bed between 830-930. I love the her new schedule! I assumed she'd get cranky at night from being up so long but she doesn't.
