Hawaii Babies

I've been keeping a secret

I can't believe I was actually able to keep this secret for 2 weeks but I did it!! Yay me! Did I mention that I'm a terrible secret keeper?

We're pregnant!! 6 weeks and 5 days WITH a STRONG heartbeat!!! We had an ultrasound today and it made me feel SO much better. I wanted to wait to announce it until I knew the baby had a heartbeat since last time the baby never developed one... I am SOOOO happy!! We told our parents and siblings when we found out but today we told close friends and more family. I'm not going to "announce" it to the whole world (aka FB and work) until my next appt around 10- 11 weeks. Well, if I can keep it that long. I've been SO sick this time, nausea all day and night... I don't know whether to eat or puke. I never had that with Bella or the last pregnancy. I keep trying to remind myself that if it helps our baby grow strong then bring on the nausea :)

We're due March 20th. Thanks ladies for all of your support in the past and Lisa, especially, for my post about how to maintain calm- it helped!

Re: I've been keeping a secret

  • Congrats!  I saw your FB post and kinda wondered, then I saw the subject here and I knew before I opened it!

Lots of sticky baby vibes!  Can't believe you're on your way to 2 under 2!  I'm thinking about TTC when Kaya turns 1 but I'm SCARED.  Can't wait to hear how things go for you!

    Thanks ladies!
  • LOL! I guessed it when you said on FB that you hate dr's and tests and stuff. Then, today when I saw the status about drs not being bad after all, I wrote "Is taking a guess...." meaning that I KNOW you're PREGNANT!

However, I thought "I better check on here before I go insinuating on fb, in case you ARE and don't wanna share on fb yet. Saw this and hurried back to FB to delete my comment haha!

CONGRATS hon!!! I'm thrilled for you!

    Here's to a H&H 9 mths!

  • Hooray Sarah!  I am SO happy for you and your family.  Sending you TONS of sticky baby dust and wishing you a healthy pregnancy.

BTW, are you still nursing Bella?  I am curious...I hope to TTC#2 in about a year or so and perhaps Libby will be weaned by the (18 months) but I am not counting on it and I just wonder if it will delay my fertility.  I still haven't had a PP (of course she still nurses at night).

I am still nursing Bella. I had one AF in late December (she was 5 months and I was not happy to have AF since I was still full time nursing + pumping!) and then didn't have one in Jan and then ovulated in Feb which is when we got pregnant and then m/c. Then I still did not have AF since the m/c but still ovulated in June sometime= KU for us! Smile So clearly it didn't delay my fertility much!

I did post in the weekly post that I am trying to wean Bella but she is SUCH a boob girl and I don't want it to be abrupt for her, or for me for that matter. I'm *hoping* to have her weaned by 15 months-ish so that I can have a small break before the next one. Besides that I'm hardly able to pump much at work, luckily I have a big freezer stash so she'll continue to get EBM even after we're all done nursing. We're BF and supplementing with EBM at meal times in a sippy cup.

Bella is still nursing 5 times a day but not at all overnight. I was the one that wanted to be done with the overnight feeds, I was tired from a year of her getting up 2-4 times a night to eat and then when we got KU I said we're for sure done now with the night feeds and Ryan has been a GREAT help to console her at night. She's only getting up once now and then he changes her and loves her and back to the crib she goes.

I enjoy nursing but it's a little weird now that she's old enough to reach in my shirt or pull my shirt out when she's ready to eat. It's fine at home but in public she does it too! I think it adds to the exhaustion of the first tri though!

  • What a blessing!!! Good health to both of you! Baby is due around Adrian's due date... he'll be one by then. Crazy!

  • Yay! Congratulations. I thought the same as everyone else when I saw your facebook status about going to the Dr. I am so happy for you and praying for that baby to stick!!
  • Lori, I was still nursing Maya too when I fell pregnant with Samara.

Also, Sarah, you MIGHT find that Bella goes off b/f'ing as your pregnancy progresses...some kids find that there's a change in the taste of the milk and decide they don't like it. Maya didn't seem to mind it though, so it's hit or miss on that.

Another thing, now that Bella isn't getting a nightfeed anymore, you may also find that she will eventually stop waking up in the night. There's no reason for her to wake up, as there will be no reward (cuddles and boob).  Maya was still, not long after her 2nd birthday, waking up around 1am-2am and I'd bring her into bed with me and she'd fall asleep breastfeeding.

When it looked like my dad was not gonna be alive much longer and I had to fly up to Queensland to see him, I had to leave Maya at home for a few days and I just didn't bother breastfeeding her when I got back. She soon started sleeping through the night at last!

(However, since Samara's been here, Maya's gone back to nightwaking Sad )

So far she doesn't seem to mind it but my nipples mind it! They are way more sensitive during pregnancy especially when nursing! Oh well, it's all worth it. It's not the I really want to be done nursing Bella, it's more that I want to be done pumping at work... I HATE pumping! I do somehow think BF balances the morning sickness a little because it keeps my hormones a little more in line... I've been SO sick feeling this time. Sometimes I wish I would just puke and get it over with!

I don't want to hear that Maya is nightwaking again sine Samara is born! How do you handle that? Do you send your DH in or just let her cry? Is it something she needs or she just hears Samara and wants to party too?

Hey Sarah...do you think your supply with tank if you stop pumping?  Maybe you can drop one pump session at a time and see what happens.

I'll be honest, it's not my favorite thing either and I only have to pump ONCE a day when I am at work.  The few times I skipped it I paid later with engorged boobs!  Ouch!  And with Libby distracted 5 minutes at a time nursing habits they had to be pumped when I got home.

Anyway, my friend nursed through her second PG (she got KU when her DS was 16 months) and dropped pumping and started "don't offer, don't refuse"...he was bedsharing until 17 months and then they transitioned him to his crib because he was enjoying the all night boob buffet still.  They did have to use a modified CIO for a few nights and then, he was fine in his crib STTN.

It's good to know you can be fertile w/out AF...how awesome is that?  I think I may be because I have other fertility symptoms (like EWCM, hormonal breakouts, etc.) around the same time every month.  I think I'll start paying more attention and see if indeed I may be fertile again.

  • that really is such great news!!! Congratulations!!!

I KNOW it will, my supply is really sensitive right now especially. I did drop the morning pump and Bella usually eats around 6 so it worked out and then I dropped one midafternoon pump, so now I'm pumping every 4 hours at work= 3 pumpings only about 10 mins each... by 15 months I plan to slowly wean the other pumpings.

She's not nursing for nutrition more for comfort but I don't want her to stop cold turkey because I left her high and dry!

  • i was suspicious when i saw your FB post too.... CONGRATS!!!! i'm so happy for you sarah :)
  • Yay!! Congratulations!! My goodness, you are fertile!! :-)

My poor hubby goes in to her and lays down and gives her cuddles until she falls asleep. I feel really bad for him and also for Maya because I DO want to go in and cuddle her.

Sam sleeps beside me from midnight onwards and sleeps all night (like Lori called it, she gets the 'All Night Buffet' so she doesn't need to cry lol). So, Maya isn't waking up to her.

She's just going through heaps right now hon. Hence our reason for getting her checked out thoroughly. She wakes up crying her eyes out most nights/mornings.

Although, I think it's better he goes in to her anyway, as she will continue to wake up if she knows it will get mummy in her bed beside her, instead of beside Sam.

  • Congratulations! I had a early m/c right before this BFP, so I know how you feel about waiting to tell people. Wonderful news!
