I don't know much about Chicco items, other than you can't find them in stores where I live, so I was all Graco. I really like our Graco PNP. Came with a bassinet insert, changing table attachment (which we never used btw) and a newborn napper attachment. The napper and bassinet parts vibrated and had music/white noise. DS slept in the napper for the first month or so, then in the bassinet until 3 months. Then we moved him to his crib. I highly recommend the PNP!
Never had a Chicco, but I have a black/cream toile Graco PNP I bought a few years ago with DS in '06. It's still in perfect condition and will be using it again this time around. Also have a Winne the Pooh Graco PNP at my dad's for when we visit, it's the same- just perfect. We used the PNP til my kids outgrew it at 18mo-2yrs for camping, spending the nights at hotels, etc.
i've asked this same thing of all of my friends with kids. Without exception, they've all told me it doesn't matter, and to get the plainest one I can, because none of their babies gave two craps about all of the bells and whistles.
We ended up registering for a Baby Trend one from BRU because it met our two (only) criteria - my husband thought it was cute, and it had a changer on it.
We have a couple Graco PnPs (one at our house, one at my parents'), and have zero complaints. I chose that one originally because it got great reviews and was relatively inexpensive (we went with a basic one, no bells and whistles). So far it's been easy to fold and transport, durable, and comfy.
Baby Bargains recommended the Graco as thier top pick, so that's what we went with. I stumbled across the Graco Lowery ($150) for $100 at Target a few weeks ago and snatched it right up. It has a napper, changing pad and white noise/vibration.
The only differance I hear is the Chicco is much bigger then the Graco but I really never checked them out to see if thats true.
We had a Graco with my daughter and due to an unplanned c-section it was a life saver. The changing part was rasied and it made it so much nicer to change my daughter so I did not have to bend over at her changer. Also her and I just stayed out in the living room most the time. It hurt to walk from the living room to the bedrooms for the first 2 weeks so I kept all her extra clothes and diapers anything I may need for the day. dh was home for the first 3 weeks but he had to work at the same time so if he was on the phone or doing some work then it was nice to have everything right there.
We are getting a Graco this time aswell. The one we are buying now has a little more to it then our last because this baby will be sharing a room with us for a little bit. So I need to store extra items for night time if the baby is fussy so dh can sleep.

This.
Double ditto. I registered for the cheapest one without all the extra stuff. Everyone I talk to says it's a waste.
I agree with this as well. I have the plan $60 Graco one with the bassinet option. My SIL got the $200 Chicco with all the bells and whistles and I never even saw her use it. The thing sat in her living room for 6 months untouched. Well I take it back DD used it once to sleep in while at their house but she never changed her kid there or put him in it.

yes, the graco is rated higher in BB, but that's because of the chicco pricetag and chicco is rated higher in CR as previously mentioned. Additionally, we didn't particularly care for ANY of the graco gender neutral options. We're going with the chicco lullabye.

The Chicco Lullabye LX is the highest rated PnP by Consumer Reports. We are buying the Chicco.
This. We have the Chicco and no complaints! We love it and its very easy to set up and has wheels for transporting it. It is bigger than the Graco so if space is an issue maybe you should consider that. My sister has a Graco and she loves it too.
I can't speak to the Chicco playard, but our Graco PNP has been awesome. We have the attached bassinet and changing table. Ours is still set up on our first floor, and we use it daily as a changing table. Not to mention the multiple trips we have taken it on. It still looks brand new, after almost 17 months of daily use. I will say we never used the "bells and whistles" it came with, such as a vibrator and sound machine/nightlight.
I just picked out the Chicco one...My friends with little ones said the new one sounded great because of the remote control option and the activity bars above.
You might want to use a mattress topper, as the mattress is always so hard. My mother in law found a cute foldable mattress for playards that is tight fitting so it is safe. It folds in 3 so it?s great when traveling. Also it has the advantage of having a washable cover. It is from comfikids.com My son loves it. Good luck!
