Skipping Bottles - Straight to Sippy Cups (repost - 3-6)

My pedi and I discussed that when I go back to work (sometime between 6 & 12 months) I'm going to be switching to EP.She suggested that I could skip bottles and go straight to the sippy cup.She gets a bottle maybe once a week (if that) now. Dr suggested we try to start introducing the sippy cup now with some bmilk or water, just to let her play/practice. Anyone else thinking about skipping bottles?

  • I pretty much skipped bottles and went to a cup.  DD started refusing the bottle at 3 months after taking it previously once a week no problem.  We fought her for almost 2 months and spent a lot of money on bottles and nipples.  I tried different temperatures, different people, different times of the day....nothing worked.  Finally, I figured since she was 5 months, I might as well start the cup early.  Got the ok from the pedi and she LOVED it.  She's 6.5 months now and drinks very well and can hold it herself.

  • My niece refused bottles so she went straight to a sippy.  B doesn't take bottles either and we introduced a sippy at 6 months and he's great with it. I'd suggest skipping the bottle!
  • DD took a bottle for a few weeks, and then pretty much refused to use one ever. I started giving her a sippy cup around 5 months. It still took her awhile to get the hang of it, but we skipped bottles pretty much.

  • Like the pps, we basically skipped to a sippy cup b/c Drew started refusing his daily bottle.  Worked great for us.

I started with just water in the cup for practice.  It took him a while to get the hang of it and I couldn't stand to see the BM wasted. :-)
