my family and friends have been saying that lower heart rates are for a girl and higher heart rates for a boy. my 1st u/s the heart was beating 123bpm and everyone said it was a girl. today it was 169bpm so that would mean a boy. what do you guys have? boy or girl according to heart rate?
To conduct the this old wives tale you simply take your baby's heartrate in beats per minute (bpm) using a doppler or fetoscope and look at the chart:
- Over 140 = girl
- Under 140 = boy

I think you said the first part of your post backwards...
but yes, I've heard that under 140 = boy and over 140 = girl.
EVERY person I've talked to IRL said it was true for them. Of course, HRs change based on gestational age, too.
At 9w2d ours was 170, so sounds like a girl! That's what I'm secretly hoping for too!

oh you're right! i guess my friends and family got it wrong!! lol! i didnt even look at the chart; just and cut and pasted from the internet! way to go guys! so i guess i am having a girl after all!!
I agree with PP, the first part is backwards, I have always heard >140=girl <140=boy...
This was true with DD, her HR was always over 160.
However, my doc said that up until 13 or 14 weeks the HR will be building up and be all over the place, then will settle to what is 'normal' for the baby.

First Ultrasound at 5w1d showed a miracle UTE baby! And right ovary ovulation to left fallopian tube.

I don't know about this one because we haven't got to see the heartbeat yet. It wasn't beating that well when we got our first u/s.
But that wives tale was wrong for my DS who had a heart rate of 163 BPM.
Wasn't true for my BFF. She has two girls and their h/bs were 130 and 160.
The first time we saw the h/b it was 130 and the second time was 152. So we'll wait and see where it's at in a few weeks.
At the first u/s the hb was 104 (boy). At the 8 week u/s it was 144 (in the middle). Now the doppler says 182 (whoa) so maybe girl?
I don't really buy it. FWIW the chinese gender predictor says boy. I guess each predictor method has 50% chance
Ring on a string didn't work for me...it rocked and circled.
Chinese gender chart says girl too.
