Just saw your question about the literacy block. We start both the reading and writing blocks with a mini lesson taught whole-group, and then give an assignment and release the children to independent work. During the work period, I meet with the children in small groups, whether to conference or reteach the concept. Reading blocks include guided reading groups.

HTH!

ok awesome. that's pretty much what we did when i student taught but i know during my last interview that apparentlyw as NOT what they meant and i felt like an idiot.  i think they were using literacy centers or something.. which i am vaguely familiar with but think they take a lot more planning than this kind of literacy block!

do you guys do writing back to back with reading or seperate times? when i student taught we did reading in the morning and writting in the afternoon.
