Success after IF

how long between first steps and walking?

Oliver took his first steps today!  (Well, to be fair, he took 1 step yesterday, but daddy didn't see it, so I'm not counting it.)  He walked about 3-4 steps on 3 seperate occassions over the course of the day.  I'm so proud of my big boy!

How long does it usually take between first steps and full on walking?  Do I have days?  Weeks?  Does it totally vary?  thanks!

Yay Ollie!

  • Yay baby!!!!!!!!

For Henry it just took about 2 weeks between first steps and walking becoming his primary mode of transport.  J was about the same.  With Sophi it was like 2 days.. she never crawled, went from cruising to steps to full on walking inside of a week.

I think it just varies.  You've probably got a little time but not much!!!

    Go Ollie go!!!

  • YAY Ollie!!! Love the new siggy pic!

I really don't have a good answer b/c Isabel held our hands and walked for    m o n t h s (from 8 1/2 -almost 14) then one day, about a week shy of 14 months she let go and took off. We did not go through the stumble phase. I think it happens pretty fast, maybe a week or two.

  • E took her first step on 7/5 and she's really walking now, just this weekend.  So that was what, like three and a half weeks?  I don't remember exactly how long it took C, but I think it was similar.

    Yay Ollie!

  • Exciting!  Cal took his 1st step a few days after his 1st bday, then took a break for about 2 weeks (no steps).  Then he started "practicing" daily, and within 2 weeks after THAT he was full-on walking.  So, about 1 month from start to finish.

  • Yay Ollie!! Hayden took his first steps on June 7th. Last weekend he learned how to go from sitting to standing on his own which turned him into a full time walker. It took about 4 weeks before he was walking about 50% of the time. It was right at 6 weeks until he was walking 100% of the time. I think I have seen him crawl once in the last few days and that was just because he was in a place he couldn't stand up.

  • Paige took 3 steps one day, then slowly progressed from there. I'd say it was 3.5-4 weeks before I called her a skilled walker and walking became her sole method of transportation.

  • Two months for us. Felt like forever. He took his first steps a few days before his birthday party, in mid-May, and didn't really take off until mid-July. But once he started to go, he was really motoring!

  • YAY OLLIE!!!!

I think it really varies.  Ava took her first steps at 11 months, then didn't fully walk until 14 months.  She *could*, but she absolutely refused to, like she was too scared.  She walked everywhere on her knees, then suddenly took off running at about 14 months.
