The AAP recommends not starting any solids until 6 months, that includes cereal which has no nutritional value and usually causes severe constipation for babies who's digestive system are not developed. I'm actually surprised your pedi is telling you it's ok to start at 4 months.

I think it depends on the baby. Nothing will magically change in your LO's intestines when they turn 6 months old. Some babies are ready for cereal sooner than others and parents have to use their instinct/gut to decide when it's right for them to start with cereal.
I have friends who've started cereal with their babies at 4 months because they felt in their gut that LO needed a little something extra.
