Baby Names

Okay, back to the drawing board...

We've got our boy name down but now we're totally starting over for a girl name. We were originally 99% sure we would go with Mallory, but I realized today I'm not really in love with it.

DD is Anneliese, we also really like Hazel. Can anyone think of other names like that? We want something unique, we like old but not popular, and definitely not trendy. Thanks!

Anneliese Olive 11/5/09
Hazel Dianna 1/8/11
Luna Valentine 4/25/13

I love Anneliese! What about Emmeline, Avery, or Abigail. (two A names would be cute)

I do really like Hazel, but seems like one of my grandmas friends ;)

  • We named our DD Georgia and have been told by two 70+ women in the mall they had friends by the same name in grade school.

  • I love Lorraine - lovely and old (last time I heard of it was in Back to the Future) . I think Madeleine is also pretty and goes along with your daughters name nicely. My French grandmother was Marie Josephine. My aunt was Annette. I adore Gwendolen (see Penelope post below), but I don't get that vibe from your post. I think the Social Security name website tip was a good one. It goes back to the 1880s I believe. I would also check out the Name Berry blog for their old lady names posts....I think it's an actual category. Your daughter's name is beautiful...I hope you guys can find one you love just as much!

  • I just checked the site, and these ones jumped out at me...I don't like them as much as the ones I listed, but I think they're good options. Dorothy, Frances, Florence And I'd like to offer up the name Pearl for a middle name. It's similar to Olive in that it's both a color and a round object. Not that names need to match or anything; I just thought it was kind of cool.

  • i love hazel! some others that might be cute would be ivy, alice, rosemary, clara, may, georgia, and flora. it might be too common but i also think margaret could go well with anneliese and it has a ton of nickname options if that's important to you.

  • I love the name Mallory, and it is one of my choices for a name.  My husband says he doesn't like it, and he wants the first name to be Madison...but it was way too common for me and I don't like it.

For the middle name, I have Alice as a choice.  Alice was his grandma's name, and he says he doesn't want to use it because I guess in a way he is thinking it is trying to replace who she was.

Anyway, I finally said, "If you want the name Madison so much, then the middle name WILL be Alice."

I am hoping SO BADLY that he changes his mind on the Madison thing...we had a dog named Maddie that died as puppy, and everytime I hear anything near that I think of the dog.

I swear, our daughter's name is going to be ? (question mark).

I keep telling him to make a list of names, that if he makes a list, I'm sure there is a name I'm bound to really like...but he won't take the time to do it.  When we do talk about names, we always end up in an argument.
