Sewers/Fabric experts...a question

Anyone print onto their own fabric?  I'd like to make a label for my first quilt and I've been reading about using freezer paper to stabilize cotton and then running it through an inkjet printer.  It seems impossible that you could do this and the ink would really last.

I've also been looking at printer sheets that you buy ready made at joann's but they seem pretty expensive.

Any have any experience with this?

    I would just design the label and put it on a swatch from spoonflower.com.  That way, you'll know that the label is printed in permanent, high quality inks.  This option would probably be less expensive than buying the printer sheets, too.

    but I have done the freezer paper stencils with fabric paint. that's kind of fun. there are a lot of videos on youtube about it.
